Ideal curtains for a bath: what materials are needed and how to choose them

Non-standard openings, special conditions of humidity and temperature in the room complicate the design of a window in a bathhouse. You need to select curtains that are suitable in size, will withstand the negative impact of the environment and at the same time fit organically into the interior. Before purchasing a product, you should familiarize yourself with useful tips on choosing textiles and examples of bath curtains with photos.

Curtains for the bathhouse should correspond to the overall theme of the interior.

Curtains in a Russian bath: when are they not needed?

A Russian bathhouse is a room that consists of several zones that differ in functionality. Some of them have window openings, others do not.

In the steam room area, which is the center of the bath complex, windows, if provided, are very small in size and are almost always located very high. In conditions of very high temperatures (70ºС or more) and humidity up to 100%, curtains, as a rule, are not provided.

For small windows located high up, curtains are not necessary Source gomel.today

What if there is a window and it is located low enough? This issue can have several solutions:

  • Organization of shutters (external or internal).
  • Window tinting with special film.
  • Roller shutters (internal or external).
  • Roman blinds or blinds that are highly resistant to adverse conditions (high temperature and humidity).

Where are curtains appropriate and where are they not?

Figuratively, a classic Russian bathhouse can be divided into several large functional areas: a steam room, a relaxation room, which often combines the functionality of a dressing room, a washing area and a bathroom. Some of them are equipped with window openings, others are not. The most striking example in this regard is the paired department.

Article on the topic: Harvia sauna how to turn it on

Very often there is no window as such, and in other cases, it is located at a height of 1850 - 1900 mm from the floor level and rarely exceeds the size of 400x600 mm. There is no particular point in equipping it with curtains, because, among other things, you need to take into account the fact that the temperature in this area often exceeds 70 degrees Celsius and the humidity can sometimes reach 80%. It’s not even worth talking about what the curtain will look like under such conditions. What to do if there is a window in the steam room and its opening is large and it is located low and opens neatly onto the neighbor’s porch. There are options and there are many of them:

  1. Use window glass tinted with film or mirror coating. A relatively simple and inexpensive way to maintain the full functionality of the opening by reliably closing the interior space from prying eyes.
  2. External or internal shutters. They are usually made of wood, treated with protective compounds and last quite a long time. The disadvantage should be considered the order of opening and closing, which is associated with unnecessary body movements.
  3. Roller shutters, blinds and Roman curtains, made from materials that are not subject to the destructive effects of high temperature and humidity, but at the same time, do not emit harmful substances into the interior of the room.

Attention! Products from the last paragraph can be placed outside and closed only for the duration of the procedures.

Color solutions

The color of the curtains should be combined with the shade of the walls, not irritate, and match the location. The best option would be calm, muted, cool tones. Do not focus on bright and saturated shades. Curtains in the bathhouse should not be conspicuous.

Recommended colors:

  • beige, brown, cream;
  • delicate pink, light lilac, lilac;
  • blue, light blue, sea wave;
  • burgundy, marsala;
  • calm yellow, lemon, honey, sand;
  • gray, silver;
  • white, ivory;
  • dim green.

It is recommended to hang beige curtains in the bathhouse.

Priority is given to light shades. Tones that are associated with water, tranquility, and cleanliness are suitable. They encourage relaxation, harmony, help you relax and calm down. The eyes quickly get used to them. Choose green, blue, light blue, sea green.

If the walls of the bathhouse are of a natural wood shade, be careful with beige, brown, and cream tones, because... they can blend into the finish.

Window textiles in different stylistic directions

The design of the bath depends entirely on your taste preferences. There is no need to adhere to certain stylistic shades. You can decorate the room in a rustic or country style.

Laconism and rationality are the main criteria for designing a steam room; all elements must be designed in the same style, harmoniously intertwining with each other and creating a complete picture of the interior

Country style

Very often, bathhouses are decorated in traditional Russian style. Walls treated with wood, an abundance of herbs, a samovar, simple motifs - all these are characteristic features of the rustic style. For rooms decorated in this style, designers recommend using light, light curtains or lampshade curtains. Macrame curtains will also look good; they are easy to make with your own hands.

Country style

Country style is probably one of the most commonly used for decorating bath rooms. Hang curtains made from natural materials such as cotton or linen. As a design, you can use small floral patterns and thin stripes.

The photo shows how to decorate a window using Roman curtains

Classic style

This style requires a lot of space. Since in a small recreation room, luxurious curtains overload the interior. Classic curtains should be used very carefully; it is better to give preference to light, light tulles. You can make accessories for curtains with your own hands, the main rule that should be followed is laconicism and minimalism. The photo is a clear confirmation of this.

In the so-called dressing room you can hang dark curtains with a light tulle curtain

East style

Traditional hammam designs are often used to decorate bath rooms. Hammam is also a bathhouse, only in eastern countries. Curtains for such rooms should be light and airy, made from natural fabrics. In the design of curtains, you can use various traditional patterns, flowers or vertical stripes.

Japanese style

For rest rooms, Japanese curtains with traditional prints are often used. Japanese style is characterized by the use of light pastel colors and natural, environmentally friendly materials. In order for Japanese curtains to fit harmoniously into the interior, their shade should echo other elements of the interior, for example, a large fan on the wall or small pillows on the sofa.

Mediterranean style

The decoration of a Mediterranean-style bath room is characterized by light and warm tones, associated with a lot of sun and light. In a room designed in this style, hand-made curtains look good. A handmade product will add personality to your bathhouse.

Horizontal blinds: manufacturing diagram

To make horizontal blinds you will need:

  • boards, sheets of plastic, plywood or plexiglass;
  • sawing machine;
  • Grinder;
  • drill;
  • liquid products for processing wood products (stain, varnish);
  • glue;
  • cord;
  • wooden beam for cornice;
  • fasteners.

The sequence of actions in the manufacture of such window curtains is as follows:

  • Cut strips from existing material.
  • Finish the edges (sand and round a little).
  • Prime all wooden elements, cover with stain or varnish and dry.
  • Mark the center of each individual plate and make holes using a drill. Do the same with the cornice and screw a small ring into it in the middle. Lay the pieces out on a flat surface.

After this, you can master the technology of how to install blinds on windows:

  • Thread the cord into one of the side holes of the curtain rod and secure the first one with a knot or stapler.
  • Pass the cable into a similar hole in the slats, each time tying a knot or securing a button under the lowest lamella (this can also be done using glue).
  • Insert the cord from the opposite side in the same way.
  • Perform the central lacing without using glue so that the slats move freely along the cord.
  • Construct the lifting mechanism of the blinds as follows: starting from the bottom bar and reaching the cornice, throw the cord through a pre-fixed ring, then from the inside of the curtains, lower the cord down, connect both ends and thread it into the stopper.
  • Attach the brackets to the wall and hang the finished protective curtains on them.
  • Check their operation by pulling the cord located in their central part.

Horizontal window blinds are the easiest to make yourself. They can be made from wallpaper. The first thing to do is measure the window opening and decide whether the curtains will cover the entire opening or only half. It all depends on your preferences.

Then you need to cut a piece of wallpaper that is even and of the required length. Please note that you will have to fold them into an accordion, so add another thirty centimeters to the original length.

Next, fold the accordion and, using a hole punch, make a hole in the center through which we pass the cord and tie a knot on top, covering it with double-sided tape.

It is recommended to glue the lower edges of homemade window blinds after carefully straightening them. This is done so that both sides of the curtains retain their presentable appearance longer. Otherwise, they will always outweigh each other.

Next, we attach a latch and a plug to the cord - the necessary attributes for the functioning of the curtains. We glue the completed product to the top of the window using double-sided tape.

How to decorate small windows in a bath interior

The bathhouse is characterized by narrow, small windows, for which it is difficult to choose suitable curtains. They should not visually reduce the space. In this case, the curtains must match the parameters of the window and the interior of the room. For such cases, choose light curtains only in light colors and made from natural textiles. They will fit harmoniously into a wooden bathhouse and create a feeling of spaciousness and airiness. To visually enlarge the window, choose curtains that will extend beyond its perimeter with a margin.

It is difficult to choose curtains for small windows.

Choose a small wooden cornice and keep the overall composition simple and natural. A suitable option for a narrow window would be a small screen or Roman blinds made of textile with striped colors. It will become more attractive if you apply light floral motifs. Abstract geometry is acceptable. But patterned shapes will not work.

Installing blinds on plastic windows without drilling

All that remains is to figure out how to install the purchased blinds yourself. The first thing you want in this case is to do without plumbing and construction work. Why distort the window frame and/or its opening? Especially if the windows are new plastic, and their slopes have just been refinished. Are there ways to install blinds yourself without drilling?

Material: tradition and functionality

The traditions of organizing a classic Russian bath require maximum authenticity of style. Window textiles are one of the components of the interior.

The right choice depends on:

  • Duration of service.
  • Appearance.
  • Functionality.
  • Ease of use.
  • Compliance with the style decision.

  • durability of the material;
  • natural composition;
  • simplicity of organization;
  • simplicity of models;
  • fitness for purpose;
  • suitable color.

Color scheme: appropriate and organic

The choice of curtain color plays an important role. The color should be combined with the shade of the wood of the walls, not irritate and correspond to the place and purpose.

Model selection

Simple, uncomplicated models are trending. Conciseness and the absence of unnecessary abundant decor is exactly what is needed. Curtains with complex draperies are also undesirable. As a last resort, they are used to decorate doorways of bathhouses.

Popular options include:

  • traditional curtains;
  • Roman curtains;
  • plastic blinds.

When choosing fabric curtains, the conditions in which the material will be located must be taken into account. Complex designs with folds and draperies will simply lose their appearance in the bathhouse.

Advice! The simpler the curtain control mechanism, the more convenient it is to use, and the longer it will last.

Natural fabrics or synthetics: choose the right one

The correct choice of material is one of the main requirements. According to the style requirements, curtains should be only natural. Suitable material:

  • linen;
  • cotton;
  • chintz;
  • batiste;
  • a mixed material including various natural fibers.

Chintz for curtains - a simple and elegant fabric Source dachamir33.ru The durability of the fabric, material and print are very important. It is important to find a reasonable compromise between durability and density. A fabric that is too heavy and thick will look rough and make it difficult to ventilate the room.

Synthetics are not designed for long-term exposure in a room with high humidity and temperature. In such conditions, it will quickly lose its appearance.

How to choose curtains for a bath room?

Choosing window textiles for a bathhouse is an important part of creating the interior of a room. When making a decision, you should take into account all the characteristics of the room, because curtains in such conditions can dramatically change their appearance and completely ruin the design idea.

The photo shows how using short curtains you can increase the space of a room

Follow the basic rules and then your efforts will not be in vain.

  • Persistence. Since there is constantly high humidity and high temperature in the room, ordinary curtains under the influence of these conditions can simply turn into a wet, unsightly canvas. Curtains must be made of durable material. They must be water-repellent or at least not very susceptible to the influence of negative factors. You should not choose dense materials - they will limit the free access of air and interfere with the timely ventilation of the room. Choose light openwork curtains with airy frills or folds.
  • Natural fibers. The material from which the curtains are made plays a key role in this case. Choose natural natural fabrics, for example: cotton, cambric, chintz or linen. In combination with wooden walls they will look laconic and stylish. If you want to sew curtains with your own hands, then when purchasing material, pay attention to the composition of the fabric - it should not include synthetics.
  • Simplicity. The bathhouse is characterized by unfavorable conditions for fabric curtains. Therefore, if you choose a complex drapery, it simply will not hold up. After all, any fabric will succumb to deformation when wet. The best option for a steam room would be light drapery.
  • Relevance. Curtains in the rest room should be in harmony with other decorative elements. Remember that very bright luxurious curtains against a wood background will simply look irrational.
  • Simple models. The most relevant for bath rooms are Roman blinds or plastic blinds. Thanks to a simple mechanism, they will not lose their original appearance due to unfavorable conditions, and will also last much longer than fabric sheets. Wooden curtains are often used for doorways (they are somewhat similar to muslin curtains). Complex drapery is acceptable only when decorating doorways.
  • Color spectrum. The color of the curtains plays a big role; it is important that it matches the structure and shade of the wood with which the room is decorated. Choose muted light shades. Do not focus on brightness and saturation; in such rooms this is a losing option. Curtains in a bathhouse should attract minimal attention; their main purpose is not aesthetic, but functional. White, cream, blue, shades of light brown, and burgundy tones look good in such rooms. For window textiles, it is preferable to use a palette of cool, muted colors that are associated with water and tranquility. Often, when decorating windows in a recreation room, green colors are chosen, they help to calm down and enjoy your vacation. Also quite a popular shade is sea green. Blue or blue is good, it focuses on cleanliness and tranquility. Blue is calming and the eyes quickly get used to it. Cream and brown shades are used less often - they blend in with the wood lining.

Types of curtains

Much time has passed since then, and such a function of curtains has faded into the background, if it exists at all (after all, houses have become more energy efficient), and the main purposes of curtains have become:

  1. regulation of indoor lighting during the day;
  2. window decoration;
  3. fencing the privacy zone from strangers (relevant for residents of the first floors).

It should be noted here that it is not customary to cover windows everywhere. So, in the DPRK there is a legal ban on this, but in the Scandinavian countries the maximum that is hung on windows is tulle. This is a consequence of a culture of openness.

In these countries, there are no high fences typical of Russian individual houses.

Be that as it may, curtains have firmly fit into our interior, and by now there are many varieties and classifications of them.

By mechanism

Depending on how the window curtain opens and closes, there is the following classification:

  1. Sliding - move apart from the middle;
  2. Roman - pulled up;
  3. Austrian - double-row, can open the window in both the first and second ways;
  4. Roll-shutter - rolls up;
  5. Vertical blinds;
  6. A cloth with slits (in Japan this is called noren).

By material

To make it clear, we will tell you how certain types of curtains were called in everyday life in the USSR, since in everyday communication we often hear these names:

  • Tulle is a transparent or translucent fabric, sometimes lace, located closer to the window;
  • A curtain is any fabric that can cover the entire window and be single (as we remember, in the USSR they usually closed windows in two layers). This could be tulle or curtains;
  • Curtain - a heavy curtain made of opaque fabric;
  • Curtain is the general name for curtains or a product made from inexpensive fabrics in utilitarian premises - kitchens, baths, bathrooms.

Roller blinds

Roller blinds can be made with basic seamstress skills. Of course, this is an easy way to make very beautiful curtains with your own hands.

It is recommended to choose the material from types of fabric that are treated with antistatic and antibacterial substances. Then it will be easier for you to care for the curtains, and it will also protect you from dust and allergy triggers accumulating in the air of the room.

For the kitchen, you can use polyester or fabric with Teflon enamel.

The following materials are useful for installing roller blinds:

  • two pieces of selected matter;
  • separate fabric (as braid);
  • a wooden block with a cross-section of two and a half by two and a half centimeters;
  • a round wooden strip with a diameter of about two centimeters;
  • special stapler for furniture;
  • screws and screwdriver;
  • tools for sewing work.

Calculate the size of the curtains. To do this, you need to add two or two and a half centimeters to the width of the window, and from eight to fifteen centimeters to the height and two or two and a half for allowances.

Two panels are cut from finished pieces (you can make them in different colors). They should be placed right side on top of each other, marked along the edges and stitched on a typewriter. The resulting bag must be turned out, the distance connected and the seams ironed.

The finished canvas is placed with the reverse side up, a beam is fixed on top (the length of which should be one centimeter less than that of the canvas), wrapped in fabric and the roll is stapled to the tree. A pocket is made from the lower sections of the fabric into which a strip is inserted and sewn.

Next, additional material is used to make segments twice as long as the height of the window opening, to which thirty centimeters are added, and eight centimeters wide. These are future system retention tapes. These strips are placed across the bar at the same distance from the edges of the curtains and stapled to the wood.

Fabric cutting diagram for roller blinds

Roller blinds made of fabric are much simpler and more economical, which in this case can be any fabric, incl. light translucent. The principle of cutting the panel of homemade roller blinds is shown in Fig. They also require an upper fastening beam, but it can be round, approximately 40-50 mm in diameter. The lower weighting material is the same.

The holes for the cord are framed with eyelets for curtains, and the cord itself can be as thin as desired, as long as it does not break. “For beauty”, you can use a ribbon instead of a cord, and so that it is not visible at all, you can use fishing line. In addition, roller blinds can be hung/removed at any time using the top hinges. The overall aesthetics are 3, but for a summer cottage it’s probably the best option.

Making roller blinds from bamboo

As already mentioned, roller blinds were originally made from bamboo. If you have bamboo slats at your disposal, nothing prevents you from making bamboo blinds with your own hands. The technological process is simple: bamboos are tied on a flat surface with any sufficiently strong cord in increments of 30-50 cm, see fig.

Natural fabrics: materials overview

The natural material is environmentally friendly, breathable and meets all hygiene requirements. A review of the options in the table will help you make a choice:

MaterialCharacteristicNote
Cottongood hygroscopicity; high strength, including at high humidity; low resistance to direct sun; tendency to wrinkle may be affected by mold and other microorganisms
ChintzCotton fabric with a specific weave of threads, which does not have high strength. The color is not highly durable and the material is not durable. Has a reasonable price
Linenhas antiseptic properties; has a persistent color; does not form pellets during operation; low resistance to direct sun exposure Shrinks when washed in hot water
BatisteContains linen and cotton. Has good breathability and can withstand washing easily Weaker in strength than linen and cotton
Natural silkhygienic; breathable; attractive; elastic; durable; resistant to wear; When washed and exposed to the sun, it loses its properties A very expensive fabric that is used extremely rarely. Does not fully meet the requirements of a rustic style

Traditionally shaped linen curtains Note! Natural silk is environmentally friendly, artificial silk is not.

DIY sewing

If you have figured out what your curtains will be, you can sew them yourself. Of course, it would be stupid to give a master class on each type of curtain: there are a great many of them, and a separate article can be devoted to each. But we can give general recommendations, because if you are planning to sew yourself, you are interested in how to sew beautiful curtains, and not just “cut” the fabric.

Calculation of the amount of fabric and pattern

To determine how much fabric you need to buy, you need to know the width of the curtain rod and the gather factor, that is, what pleats you need. Usually this coefficient does not exceed 1.5-2, but if you like tightly gathered curtains, multiply by 2.5. Simply put, if your cornice is 3 meters, then you will need from 4.5 to 7.7 meters of curtains. The exception is Japanese curtains - they are straight, Roman - they gather up and those cases when you do not plan to close the window completely, and the curtains only serve as a frame. In this case, you will need the length of the curtain rod where they will hang.

The height of the curtains is calculated as the difference between the floor and the cornice; then you should add or subtract the length to this if you decide to make the curtain shorter or longer (so that it lies on the floor). Be sure to give a seam allowance of at least 2 cm at the bottom and at least 5 cm at the top. It is better to leave more on top if you are attaching the curtain to grommets - in this case, the top of the curtain will be higher than the cornice; or sew on curtain tape. On the contrary, if you hang the curtain on loops of the same material (on a curtain rod), you do not need a large allowance.

The size of a Roman blind is calculated from the cornice to the bottom of the window; to this you need to add allowances for seams and slats, and buy the same amount of lining fabric.

The folding coefficient of a French curtain horizontally is 1.5, and vertically on average 2.5.

Using the same principle, calculate the cost of a lambrequin, if you have one. You can find patterns of different types of the latter on the Internet.

Now count how many meters of perimeter you will have to process, multiply this number by 2 and add another coil (just in case).

The amount of additional fittings can be calculated based on the type of fastening and cladding technology. So, if you have a hard lambrequin, you need to purchase doublerin (this is a hard lining for collars).

The pattern for curtains with an oblique cut is made in unfolded form, so there should be enough space in the apartment for the cut.

Sewing

These steps should be followed:

  1. Before you start stitching your curtains, make sure your thread tension is set correctly. What is not critical when sewing small items can backfire when making large ones. So, the pulled edge of the curtain will puff up unsightly (this is called sagging), and no amount of weight of the material will correct this. To avoid this, first test on scraps and adjust the tension until the seam is straight and the fabric stops sagging.
  2. If your curtains are made of bulk material, do not worry: before further work, it is better to sew them on an overlocker.
  3. Hemming the edges of curtains made of thin materials (voile, organza) does not look very aesthetically pleasing from the side, so use bias tape.
  4. When sewing lambrequins, French curtains and complex decorative elements, do not neglect manual basting of parts, otherwise the seam may fail. Since in some cases fabrics behave differently, it is worth trying on at this stage - in a horizontal position you will not see all the nuances, for example, swag:
  5. Change the needles on your machine often. A dull needle tends to pull the fabric thread if it gets in the way.

Finally, if you want to ensure that your hard work doesn't go to waste, don't forget to properly care for your curtains.

Paper

How to quickly make your own blinds from wallpaper

  1. A blank 1.25 times the height of the window and a width equal to its width or, if the window is wide, its whole share, is folded like an accordion. The width of the “lamellas” is in the range of 50-70 mm, so that a whole number of them fit along the length of the workpiece. The first and last strips should face outward. Folding an accordion is a very important operation: if you do it carelessly, the error accumulates and the panel comes out crooked. Therefore, before smoothing the next joint, it is best to check using a template made from a long rigid ruler, a flat strip left over from repairing an MDF board, etc., laid next to the workpiece;
  2. The accordion, while it is still in the form of a foot, is pierced exactly in the middle with a hole punch. The best punch is round, with a diameter of 8-10 mm, so a stationery hole punch will not work. A cord with a diameter of 6-8 mm is threaded into the hole. A thinner cord will soon cut the paper;
  3. The cord is looped around the top and adjacent “lamellas” and secured with a knot at its end;
  4. Remove 1 protective film from a strip of double-sided tape as long and wide as the “lamellas” and seal the top “lamella” with the cord with tape;
    Adjusting wallpaper blinds with a latch
  5. The ends of the lower “lamella” are brought together to form something like an unfolded fan (“peacock tail”) and glued together with PVA or the same tape. It is impossible to bring the gluing to the very inner bend; the accordion must move freely together and apart on the cord! At the end of the cord, first put a single (you can also double, but there will be an extra hole) cord clamp, then - an end cap, tie a knot at the end of the cord and put the end cap on it. Its role is not only decorative: if you fix the end of the cord with just a knot, it will soon get dirty;
  6. Remove the remaining protective film from the tape and glue the blinds to the window frame;
  7. The blinds are assembled/unfolded by moving the lock, see also fig. on the right, marked with an arrow.

The process, as we see, is simple, and if there are pieces of wallpaper left in the closet from the renovation, all the expenses will only be on tape and a couple of small pieces of fittings. In addition, you can watch a master class on making homemade paper curtains in the video below. Regular tape is enough to last the blinds all summer.

Having decided to understand the question of how to make blinds, it is worth recognizing that one of the most inexpensive and easiest to manufacture are blinds made of paper using the pleated method.

They make it easy to refresh the interior or protect window glass during renovation work.

To make this type of curtains you will need:

  • a single piece of paper (plain or with a pattern);
  • scissors;
  • ruler or straight bar;
  • pencil;
  • paper clips;
  • awl;
  • durable cord;
  • double sided tape;
  • cardboard;
  • fasteners for clothes or bulky buttons.

Work should be performed on a flat, free surface.

Instructions on how to make pleated blinds with your own hands are as follows:

  • Prepare a paper strip. Its width should exceed the dimensions of the window sash by 0.5 cm on each side.
  • Draw strips of the required width (up to 4 cm) on the back of a sheet of paper. It should be remembered that the wider the strip, the more massive the blinds will look.
  • Fold the paper where the lines were drawn. If the paper is very thick, you can first use a ruler to draw sharp scissors along it so that the folds are more even.
  • Fold the entire strip of paper into an accordion shape and secure the edges and middle with clamps.
  • Measure the middle of the resulting structure and pierce it through with an awl.
  • Insert the cord into it.
  • Tie a knot or fasten a button at the top.
  • To make the base more rigid, glue cardboard strips to its outer planks. Insert the clips into the bottom of the cord.
  • Using double-sided tape, attach the blinds to the inside of the curtain rod.
  • Attach tape to the tip of the bottom edge of the blind and make the bottom in the shape of a semicircle.

Straight pleated wallpaper blinds are made using the same technology, but here you will need three rows of cords: 1 is placed in the middle and 2 along the edges with an indentation of 3-5 cm.

The process of painting a room

The process of painting the inside of a bathhouse begins with thoroughly sanding all surfaces to be treated - these are walls, floors and furniture, if necessary. After this stage, all construction dust or shavings must be removed from the room, as they will interfere with the quality of the painting process. You can wipe the surfaces with a cloth; it is better to leave it dry or vacuum it.

Paint can be applied with a roller or brush

Before applying colored paint, it is best to treat the wood with compounds that will protect against fire and mold. After they dry, you can decorate the room with the chosen color of the dye. Work is best carried out in a well-ventilated area with a constant air temperature.

Style selection

Curtains for a bathhouse window can be chosen not only in a rustic style. You can even adopt Japanese if you implement everything correctly.

Country style: Russian traditions

This is a traditional stylistic solution, which is chosen in the vast majority of cases. Curtains for a bathhouse in a rustic style give the room the special charm of a Russian hut, emphasizing the simplicity and environmental friendliness of the environment.

Decoration in a rustic style This direction has the following defining points:

  • practicality;
  • use of light shades;
  • addition of curtains with lace inserts, neat embroidery, stitching, etc.

For your information! The analogue of the rustic style in Europe is the Alpine.

Types of thermal curtains and curtains – which ones to choose?

Thermal curtains or veils are fan heaters that supply streams of warm air. They are fixed above the front door, thereby creating a barrier that prevents the outside cold from entering the room.

Applications and Benefits

The installation of such a curtain is especially necessary in those buildings where there is constant movement of people and the entrance doors operate uninterruptedly, as drafts appear.

Most often they are installed in:

  • restaurants, cafes;
  • shopping centers, shops;
  • warehouses, workshops;
  • lobbies, halls of office enterprises;
  • sports centers;
  • banking institutions.
  • Air structures without a heating function are also installed in the area between the main hall and the restaurant kitchen to prevent the spread of odors. For a similar purpose, devices are hung in smoking areas.

    Main advantages of fan heaters:

  • protection from drafts and cold from outside entering the room;
  • optimal climate support;
  • protection of refrigeration chambers from melting;
  • saving money on electricity by reducing heat transfer;
  • salvation from insects, fumes, steam and dust from the street.
  • An important feature of structures, regardless of their type and use cases, is automated regulation. Thanks to this, control of starting and stopping the engine of the device is carried out without much effort and loss of time. The intensity of the fan heater is set based on the positions of the external doors and the air temperature.

    Classification of thermal curtains

    Depending on the method of installation of the structure, the following curtains are distinguished:

  1. Horizontal. This is a more popular and optimal option for placing the block above the door. Most models are made of this type. Mounted directly above a window opening or door.
  2. Vertical. They were originally designed for cases where it is not possible to mount a horizontal fixture. Fixed on the side of the openings. To install such a structure, it is necessary that there is a small gap between the upper border of the opening and the ceiling. In this case, installation is carried out only with a suspended ceiling.

In addition, depending on the type of energy carrier, thermal devices are divided into electric, water or gas devices.

Thermal electrical devices are units with heaters that supply hot air flows into the room. Installed in a wide variety of spaces.

  • low weight of the structure;
  • eliminating the possibility of flooding or explosion in the room;
  • fast and convenient installation.
  • However, with such devices, resource consumption increases and there are dangers associated with electric current, which are considered disadvantages of electric curtains.

    Water-based thermal curtains

    Water structures are a great option to reduce energy costs and keep the room warm. With them you can save on electrical resources. However, the price for this efficiency is the high cost of the device, installation and the need to connect to a central water supply system.

    Advantages of water design:

  • compact and transportable, easy to install in openings larger than 3 m;
  • the system provides protection against overheating;
  • convenient design appearance;
  • simplicity and ease of control;
  • compared to electrical equipment, water structures are more economical to operate;
  • low noise level;
  • complete protection from drafts, cold or hot air;
  • long service life.
  • Despite many positive aspects, water curtains have the following disadvantages:

  • the complexity of installing the system, since installation requires the mandatory connection of the fan heater to the central heating system;
  • in case of problems with the local or central water supply, the water device can easily fail.
  • A water heater acts as a heating element. Due to the complexity of the automation, it withstands sudden changes in temperature during the winter seasons and does not freeze.

    Gas heating devices

    Heating units with gas installation are one of the new devices on the market. The system is in demand in cases where it is not possible to install electrical or water equipment. Due to its high performance capabilities, gas construction is considered an excellent alternative option.

    Advantages of gas units:

  • operation at any temperature;
  • the system does not freeze;
  • uniform supply and high air density;
  • cheap energy;
  • possibility of using different types of gas.
  • A significant drawback is the toxicity and explosiveness of the gas. Only if all aspects of installation and operation are observed, dangerous situations and risks to the lives of others can be avoided.

    Features of choice

    In order to choose good equipment for home use, you need to consider the following points:

    1. Device type. This can be either a water or electric curtain. The device on an electric heater is quickly installed, but it is quite expensive to operate. For water heating in the house, you can purchase a water heating device. It has more installation problems, but is cheap to use.
    2. Unit power. The higher the performance, the more heat the device will produce. However, this also increases resource consumption.
    3. Air jet exit speed. For optimal performance, the speed should be at least 10 m/s.

    At the moment, such warm units have many additional functions. The most important among them are protection against overheating and the creation of air flow without heating. These features expand the possibilities of using the equipment in hot seasons.

    Hanging curtains on a small window: photos and design techniques

    A cornice wider than the opening itself will help transform a small window. The main thing is to correctly measure the width and height of the window. It would be a good idea to pay attention to the stylistic characteristics of the room and the degree of its illumination.

    A photo gallery of finished works will help you make the right choice. Based on the information provided, you can place an order.

    If a person feels strong, then you can make a cornice with your own hands.

    In this case, the decorator tips listed below will help:

  • The geometrically correct shape of the frame can be emphasized using a contrasting color;
  • It is not recommended to completely cover the frame with a curtain - leaving a small space can visually add a few centimeters to the room;
  • In a well-lit living room, a pleated curtain equipped with a tension system is appropriate;
  • If there is not enough light in the room, then attention should be paid to small curtains, the upper and lower edges of which are equally fixed;
  • The presence of a window niche can be advantageously played up by using a combination of Roman and traditional curtains, which are hung on the sides;
  • If a double-glazed window is installed in the room, then medium-length curtains with lace will help to complement it.
  • The geometric shape of the window and frame plays an important role when choosing between blinds and curtains. It is necessary to measure the height, width and depth if we are talking about a niche. Based on the information collected, the fabric, its length and width are selected.

    Vertical blinds

    Blinds can be not only horizontal, but also vertical, and made from various materials, including lining. Such curtains look quite massive, but very original.

    To make them you will need a cornice and fittings. The strips unraveled on a special machine must be made to the same length, sanded and varnished.

    Note!

    Then, using self-tapping screws, you need to attach metal clips to them, and then proceed to the final assembly of the structure.

    You can also make your own vertical slats from wood or plastic (including from plastic bottles), or sew blinds from fabric.

    Vertical blinds will be more difficult to make at home. The boards can be made of plastic, glass wallpaper or wood. For this you will need: threaded hooks, drills, cord, glue, special accessories: guides and sliders.

    Please note that the width of the plates should be no more than twelve centimeters.

    We fix special panels on the upper and lower sides of the resulting segments. We attach threaded hooks to the top ones. Next, on top of the plates in the same place, you need to drill holes, thanks to which the structure will hold.

    It is recommended to lubricate the finished punctures with reliable glue and pass the cord through them. This will allow the plates to lock in one position, which will be very convenient for further use of the curtains. Also, thanks to this action, the elements of the sun protection system will rotate in the future.

    To mount the boards, guides made of aluminum or plastic are used, onto which special sliders are mounted, and finished sections of curtains are attached to them using threaded hooks.

    Wooden blinds are particularly difficult to manufacture at home. To assemble them yourself you will need a lot of tools, as well as patience and talent. If you would like to make just such curtains, then it is better to contact a specialist or ask him for help during assembly.

    Selecting furniture

    A standard furniture set includes armchairs, a sofa or chaise lounge, a table, a TV stand, a wardrobe and possibly a kitchen corner with a bar counter and the necessary equipment. In more expensive options, a barbecue oven is installed in this room or an electric fireplace is installed. The furnishings of the premises will depend on the characteristics of the owners' holiday. Perhaps someone likes to sing karaoke and dance after taking a steam bath, while others like to sleep to the quiet noise of the TV.

    Design of a relaxation room in a bathhouse: useful recommendations

    If the bathhouse is of sufficient size, a room for relaxation is allocated in it. People relax there after visiting the steam room or shower. The comfort of the room depends on the interior of the room. Therefore, special attention should be paid to design.

    Decor of a relaxation room in a bathhouse

    There are no special requirements for the design of the rest room. However, in such a room it is necessary to provide the following elements:

    • hooks for bathrobes and towels;
    • rugs outside so guests can change their shoes comfortably;
    • cabinets or shelves for storing things (phones, wallets, etc.);
    • a mirror, preferably full-length, so that people can clean themselves up.

    This photo shows an example of decorating a relaxation room in a Scandinavian style. Its distinctive feature is calm tones and minimalism in the interior.

    Bathhouse interior with heater

    It is advisable to design the room in soothing colors so that guests can relax after bath procedures. It is not necessary to use the same finishing materials as when decorating the entire bathhouse. The main thing is that they have sufficient moisture resistance (for example, ordinary drywall will not work).

    If the size of the room allows, the recreation room can be divided into several zones: kitchen, living room (area where tables and chairs are located), playroom (for children). In cases where a large number of guests are expected, it is advisable to create an area with sun loungers or a compact sofa in which you can lie down if a person is very tired after bath procedures.

    Interior of the dressing room

    Wall covering

    Cladding finishing:

    1. Clean the walls of the log house from debris and caulk the cracks.
    2. Cover surfaces with a layer of antiseptic.
    3. Cover the prepared wooden walls with a layer of vapor barrier film. Separate sheets must be overlapped on each other. The joints can be taped with metal tape.
    4. Cut wooden blocks to required sizes. Stuff them on top of the film to form a frame.
    5. Fix insulation boards into the recesses of the wooden frame (foam glass for the shower, steam room, foam plastic or mineral wool for the dressing room).
    6. Cover the insulation with foil film and secure it with a construction stapler. Tape the joints with metal tape.
    7. Stuff slats 2–2.5 cm thick to create a ventilation gap.

    The last stage is the installation of the lining.

    The procedure for tiling walls:

    1. Cover the walls with any waterproof material.
    2. Secure the metal mesh with staples over the waterproofing layer.
    3. Seal the mesh with a layer of plaster. Its thickness should be more than 1.5 cm.
    4. Prepare the adhesive composition.
    5. Lay the tiles through the crosses.
    6. Check each row for level so as not to go astray.
    7. Remove excess glue with a spatula.

    After a day you need to grout the tiles. The seams must be coated with a special water-repellent compound.

    Steam room finishing

    To decorate the walls of the steam room you need to use lining. The best options are hardwoods. Birch, larch, aspen, and linden can withstand prolonged exposure to high temperatures and changes in humidity. Such panels do not release resin when heated strongly.

    From the same types of wood you can purchase bars, slats, assemble canopies, benches, and seats for a bathhouse.

    When assembling furniture for a steam room, individual elements must be secured with wooden dowels, screws or nails. Metal caps need to be sunk deeply into the wood so as not to get burned on them during bath procedures.

    Finishing shower and pool

    To cover the walls in the shower you can use:

    1. PVC panels. This material is not afraid of moisture and is resistant to prolonged exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Plastic panels are easily attached to any base.
    2. Lining treated with special antiseptics to protect against moisture, mold, and mildew.
    3. A combination of lining, ceramic tiles, porcelain stoneware, natural or artificial stone.

    The last option is suitable for large showers. The room can be divided into several parts and each zone can be decorated with different materials.

    To decorate the pool, it is recommended to use ceramic tiles or mosaics. The second option is more attractive, but more expensive.

    Floors can be of two types:

    • tiled;
    • wooden.

    Wooden floors are divided into two subgroups depending on the design features:

    1. Solid. A massive wooden shield is knocked together from individual boards, which is installed at a slope in one direction. A drain hole is made at the lowest point to remove excess liquid.
    2. Leaking. When knocking together a wooden board, you need to leave gaps 1–1.5 cm wide between the boards. Through them, water goes into the ground.

    Leaky floorings are suitable for steam rooms that are used only in the warm season. If you want to bathe comfortably in winter, it is better to choose solid wood flooring or a concrete floor with ceramic tiles.

    When purchasing tiles, it is better to choose products with a rough front surface. This will protect visitors from falling when walking on wet surfaces.

    Finishing the waiting room and rest room

    To decorate rest rooms and dressing rooms, you can use pine lining - a cheap finishing material that can be found in many construction stores. Pine lining is not suitable for steam rooms, since it releases a large amount of resin when heated strongly. There is no need to buy expensive finishing materials for recreation areas. Features of the dressing room arrangement:

    1. The optimal dimensions for the rest room, which is located behind the shower, are 1.5 x 2.5 meters.
    2. To protect yourself from drafts, it is recommended to make a small vestibule. It can be fenced off with a cabinet, a wooden panel, glass panels or thick fabric.
    3. The dressing room should be insulated with polystyrene foam or mineral wool.
    4. Inside the recreation area you can install furniture made of plastic or metal.
    5. If the combustion channel opens into the dressing room, a transparent tempered glass door should be fixed to its window.
    6. We need to allocate space for a locker room.

    Since the surrounding objects and finishing materials in the dressing room are not affected by high temperature and humidity, it becomes possible to experiment with different finishing materials.

    Best design examples

    Curtains are an important element in the interior, but in a bath they should not be the main accent. Choose products from natural, environmentally friendly materials. Choose simple models with calm, natural, soft colors. It is desirable that they allow light and air to pass through.

    Curtains should cover the entire area of the window opening. If the windows of the rest room face south, choose curtains that provide shade. But they should not be too gloomy, otherwise it will make the room heavier. The darker the fabric, the more formal the design looks.

    You can highlight the window using curtains made from a combination of different types of materials. But don't forget to be consistent with the design direction. For complete authenticity of a Russian bath, choose a rustic style. For large relaxation rooms and saunas, classic, Mediterranean, and modern styles are suitable. And for the Turkish bath - oriental style. Examples of design can be seen in the photo.

    One glass or two

    To preserve heat in the bathhouse, it is advisable to install double glass. Moreover, it is better - with maximum sealing. But, if the window is installed correctly and there is a pocket for steam, then its effect on heat and steam conservation is not critical. Why then install double frames? Yes, to prevent condensation from leaking. It flows onto the windowsill, then down onto the wall. This is why the tree begins to rot in these places. Under the windows, and the lower crown - this is where fungus and rot appear first. Therefore, double glazing on bath windows is a measure against wood rotting.

    Design project

    The interior of the relaxation room in the bathhouse will be fashionable and comfortable if we plan it in the initial project, and in the case of reconstruction of an old building, we will professionally predict its capabilities.

    Note! In spacious buildings, a relaxation room is appropriate in front of the steam room, and in small bathhouses it is a cozy dressing room.

    When planning, you can create a design project for a recreation room with a billiard table.

    There are special companies that create individual projects, but we can select a suitable one from ready-made samples. They comply with safety regulations and construction standards.

    Naturally, after steam cleansing procedures (a significant test for the body), we will want to relax. All attributes of the furnishings of this room should create an atmosphere of bliss that promotes a pleasant conversation.

    Let's allocate a place for the massage table.

    Here, a healing massage has maximum impact - after the steam room, the skin and muscles are pliable for both relaxation and tonic procedures, and are also ready to absorb healing creams, which is why massage tables are needed.

    A fireplace is definitely appropriate in such a room.

    The peak of pleasure is the fireplace, so that you can fully enjoy your holiday with the cheerful crackling of logs. It is advisable to arrange it at the stage of construction of the bathhouse, so we can reproduce any design and choose the material as desired.

    Variations on a country theme

    This style, like the previous one, is perfect for decorating a wooden bathhouse, suggesting the creation of a “rustic” interior, without any special frills or ceremonial pomp that would be inappropriate in this case.

    In general, Russian style and country music are very similar. However, country music will bring the traditions of other countries into the interior of the bathhouse. Thus, designers highlight American and French country, which will be distinguished by the traditional colors of textiles and the use of individual interior elements.

    French country is more sophisticated than American country, which is considered one of the simplest. But the main features of this design direction are preserved regardless of the country of origin. So, the interior of a country-style bathhouse is:

    1. Wooden furniture, usually light colors, perhaps artificially aged and simply varnished. The furniture is decorated with light carvings and polished, making it look somewhat more elegant than in the Russian style.
    2. Bright dishes that will serve as a highlight of an otherwise very simple interior. Ceramics, blue-white or pale yellow plates, cups depicting rural landscapes, as well as dishes made of natural wood are appropriate.
    3. Natural fabrics - cotton and linen of variegated colors.
    4. Walls made of timber or logs.
    5. Mandatory beams on the ceiling.
    6. Ceramic tiles or boards on the floor.

    A real ethnic corner, located in the relaxation area of the bathhouse. In country music you can use not only wood, but also leather, wicker, and forged furniture.

    Everything is simple and tasteful - this is the basic principle of country music. This option is more similar to the French “rustic” style than to the American one, which took a lot from the national traditions of Indian tribes

    Colonial Improved

    Now let's see how to make simple, cheap and reliable colonial-type horizontal blinds with fixed slats for mid-latitudes with your own hands. First, their grille is assembled in a hinged and/or folding frame, like a window shutter. Then, 3-4 mm thick plywood, twice impregnated with a water-polymer emulsion and painted, will be used on the lamellas.

    The layout of the slats of “moderate colonial” blinds is shown in Fig. on right. Proportions and angles are given for the Central Zone of the Russian Federation; the dashed line shows additional slats of unshaded windows facing due south. In general, it is advisable to maintain the following ratios:

    • South windows: h = W.
    • South-east and south-west windows: h = 1.5W.
    • East and west windows: h = H = 2W.
