Types, characteristics and installation of glass doors to a sauna with your own hands

When arranging modern baths, glass door structures are increasingly being used. Glass goes well with wood and is not afraid of moisture and significant temperature changes. They are installed both in the shower and directly in the sauna. In this case, it is possible to independently install a glass door in a steam room without involving a specialist.

Do-it-yourself glass door installation in a bathhouse and sauna

The traditional material for a bathhouse is wood, but this does not mean that other materials cannot be used. It is even possible if their characteristics are not inferior to or superior to wood. A fairly striking example of a worthy replacement is glass doors for a bathhouse or sauna. When using glass doors in a steam room, there are practically no negative aspects.

Glass doors to the steam room

There are three main disadvantages:

  • Great price (it's justified).
  • Thermal conductivity is higher than that of wood, but special doors for baths and saunas use tempered glass, which not only withstands high temperatures, but also has reduced thermal conductivity. It is impossible to get burned by touching such doors.
  • Fragility. This problem is partially solved by tempering: the treated glass is not so fragile, and when it breaks, it breaks into many fragments without sharp edges. Also, to increase strength in the manufacture of glass doors to the bathhouse, glass with a thickness of at least 8 mm is used. Both hardening and thickness affect the cost, so good glass doors cost a lot, but they are not easy to break.

These are, perhaps, all the shortcomings. But there are plenty of advantages:

  • Through the glass door you can see people in the steam room. From a safety point of view, this is great: you can come to the rescue in a timely manner if you suddenly feel sick.
  • It becomes lighter in the steam room and this light is dim, diffused, pleasant to the eye and conducive to relaxation.
  • The service life of a glass door to a bathhouse made of tempered glass is almost unlimited, unless it is broken.
  • Cleaning glass doors in a bathhouse is much easier than cleaning wooden ones. Any detergent is suitable.
  • The glass doors in the steam room are not threatened by fungi and mold; there is simply no place for them to multiply on a timely cleaned glass surface.
  • No deformation under any operating conditions: neither temperature, nor humidity, nor their changes and differences in any way affect the dimensions of the glass door leaf.
  • Modern glass doors for a sauna or bathhouse are beautiful.

Glass door for a bath

Despite all the advantages of glass doors, not everyone recommends installing them in a bathhouse.

This is due to the fact that it is important to retain steam in the steam room of a Russian bath. To do this, make a high threshold - at least 10 cm, and a door leaf that fits tightly to the jamb

In a sauna, on the contrary, they often make a gap under the door leaf to ensure air flow. Therefore, you can safely install glass doors in the sauna.

For lovers of high quality, we can recommend products from the Finnish company Harvia. We have previously talked about Harvia sauna stoves, but in addition to stoves, the company produces a large assortment of glass doors for saunas and baths.

Having read the reviews of those who have a glass door installed in a Russian bathhouse, we came to the conclusion: it is also possible to install glass doors in a bathhouse. And this will not interfere with retaining steam at all. The doors should open outward “from the steam room” (to the right or left, as is convenient), and they can be installed so that it is possible to fill a threshold on the side of the steam room, which perfectly retains all the moisture inside. Good glass doors are made in such a way that they practically do not allow steam to pass through at the points of contact with the frame (the kit includes a seal that is inserted into the frame). So they install a glass door in the bathhouse and don’t complain.

Glass door with a pattern

According to reviews from bath attendants, some use the glass door to determine the humidity in the steam room - they say it “works” no worse than a hygrometer, some are pleased with the ease of care, but everyone unanimously claims that they have no regrets. And the main advantage of a glass door to a Russian bath is that it does not react to changes in humidity: it does not swell or shrink, because any wooden door either swells or shrinks. Because of this, it is difficult to open/close, which is not good, then large gaps appear through which the same steam escapes and heat loss increases

Everyone who has installed glass doors in their bathhouse or sauna definitely advises, in addition to the quality of the glass, to pay attention to the fittings

What you need to pay attention to

When choosing a glass door for a steam room, you must first pay attention to the following details:

  • A glass door leaf for saunas and Russian steam rooms is mounted in a wooden frame - a block made of linden or aspen. The block can be laminated or covered with veneer;
  • For a cold steam Turkish bath, you need to choose doors with frosted glass mounted on an aluminum frame that is not afraid of condensation.

The metal heats up to a maximum of 45-50°C and does not pose any particular danger to the hands of visitors. Particular attention is paid to canopies. Doors with an opening width of 180x60 cm can have two hangers, and heavier models can have three hangers. In this case, it is desirable that the hinge mechanisms be manufactured in Scandinavian countries.

The seal is only silicone, regardless of what types of paired rooms the door is intended for. The leaf should be fixed not with a roller, but with magnetic points installed along the perimeter of the door frame.

Manufacturing and installation of glass doors

In the shower and steam rooms of the bathhouse, it is best to install doors made of tempered glass or triplex (glued together from two layers). To manufacture such structures, you need a specialized machine for processing the edges of sheets with large thickness, as well as a furnace for hardening the material after drilling the mounting holes, so it is impossible to make them in artisanal conditions. But you can order the canvas from a glass company and supplement it with fittings yourself and install it in the opening.

Glass doors are always a winning decorative solution, as they give the bath a modern and stylish look. It also maintains the temperature in the steam room well: when the inner side of the fabric heats up to 80°C, the outer side remains warm to the touch (about 40°C). In addition, a glass door is an additional source of natural light in a small, cramped steam room/shower room, where there is not always a separate window.

The swing mechanism is the most reliable for a steam room

So that the steam room does not seem cramped, you can separate it with a glass wall

Glass for a bath door can be frosted, transparent, colored

The transparent glass door of the steam room looks good next to the same shower stall

The glass door can be decorated with any sandblasted pattern

Choosing glass

The thickness of the glass should range from 6–12 mm, but the most preferable is 8–10 mm. A thinner fabric will be easier to break, but a thick one will be too heavy and will lead to faster wear of the hinges. The width of the door is limited by the wear resistance of the fittings; experts recommend choosing door leaves no wider than 0.8 m. Such a wide, heavy door will last longer if it is hung on 3 hinges. If you want to enclose a steam room with a glass wall, the door can be made narrower or double-leaf, and the additional panels can be installed permanently. In such cases, the width of the paneling is limited only by the area of the corridor (workers simply will not be able to carry a very wide and high panel inside).

The glass does not have to be transparent; it can be decorated with a sandblasted pattern, or completely frosted. In addition, manufacturers offer colored glasses painted in the mass (throughout the entire thickness of the material): graphite and bronze. There are options made of clear glass, without a greenish tint at the end.

Installation features

Glass companies produce doors of different types of opening: swing, sliding, pendulum. It is best to give preference to the swing version, since they use the most compact and durable fittings. The use of other mechanisms carries an additional risk of getting burned on the guide.

Required tools:

  • a screwdriver for installing hinges in the box;
  • building level to check the geometry of the box;
  • handle with rubber suction cups for working with glass.

Such an inexpensive tool will make it much easier to move and support a smooth glass sheet in the desired position.

If you already know how wooden doors are installed, you only need to familiarize yourself with the main differences:

  • When installing a glass door, you must carefully protect the glass from damage. Triplex and tempered glass withstand frontal loads well, but can break due to a blow to the end.
  • A glass door of even a small width turns out to be very heavy; it is simply impossible to install it yourself, even if you skillfully change interior wooden doors without helpers.
  • A glass door cannot be leaned against a wall like a wooden one. It should be installed horizontally on a table or wooden planks so that the load is distributed evenly and the canvas does not touch the floor.
  • Hinges and handles must be specialized for glass.
    Other models will not stick to the canvas, and the ugly fastening mechanism will be visible to the eye. Only 2 bolts are used to secure the wooden handle in the glass.
  • Make sure that the door sealing silicone is heat-resistant, otherwise you will experience an unpleasant odor, harmful fumes and heat loss the first time you use it.

We recommend installing a glass door for a steam room in a wooden frame. In the shower you can use mounts on the wall, to fixed glass or in a metal box.

Installation work

Installing glass doors in a bathhouse is quite simple. If you install the door yourself, then you can significantly save on the services of professionals. However, it is better to take the help of someone with experience.

Features of the door frame

Glass door panels are often sold complete with a wooden frame made from hardwood. This wood does not emit resin when exposed to high temperatures. The box should be carefully examined for various knots and other defects. For durability, it should be treated with a special varnish, which will not only provide better additional moisture resistance characteristics, but also significantly improve the aesthetic appearance.

Guides

Two guides are required for installation. The second guide will be installed from below. The opening principle can be either hinged or sliding. Such doors must open outwards. There should be no obstacles along the path along which the doors are to open or slide apart. If the base is made of wood, it is recommended to use self-tapping screws to install the guides. For brick or concrete walls, dowels are recommended.

The installation process is no different from installing interior doors. But you must remember the maximum gap is 5 mm. One of the most important functions for a sauna door is maintaining temperature. The structure must be carefully sealed around the perimeter. This problem can be easily solved using a silicone seal. It will not only help save precious heat, but will also be able to protect the space between the leaf and the door frame from drafts.

To protect the glass edges from various impacts, experts recommend choosing high-quality, suitable wood strips and securing them to the glass with self-tapping screws. This way you can preserve the edges and ensure safe operation of the door.

Today I will tell you about installing a glass door in a bathhouse or sauna.

In my case, it turned out that the masons did not know the dimensions of the door that needed to be installed. And it is, as a rule, smaller than the size of standard interior doors. So the masons took as much as they could. To somehow get out of this situation, I used materials left over from finishing the sauna itself. These were timber and hangers.

On one side, I built two beams close to each other and to the wall. The hangers were attached directly to the brick and grabbed the beams with them. This was exactly the loop side. On the other hand, two beams were not included for the opening width I needed. And I secured one beam. And, in this way, as usually happens when leveling walls with plasterboard.

I installed a crossbar on top, and I also secured it with parts of hangers, making corners from them. Since at that time it was not yet known what material the dressing room would be sheathed with, and the outlines were for stone, I attached the beam so that after installation, drywall could be screwed to it flush with the wall.

After I achieved the size of the opening I needed, I calculated it based on the size of the door frame plus 1 centimeter around the perimeter. I foamed all the gaps. The only exception was the upper part. She was already bookmarked.

Door materials

Each owner of the plot can independently decide which design and style of the bathhouse to choose. Manufacturers made sure that everyone could choose the most suitable material for the job.

Design option for a wooden door with forged elements

Most often, the choice is made on the following raw materials for making doors:

  1. Wood.
  2. Glass.
  3. Plastic.
  4. Metal.

Each of these materials has its own advantages, disadvantages and features. Therefore, before placing a bet on any of them, you need to familiarize yourself with the nuances.

Wood

There are different materials for making doors leading to the bathhouse. People choose to finish the structure using eurolining prepared for the process, while other owners prefer to buy a solid frame and carry out the construction on their own.

Homemade wooden door for a bathhouse

In any case, wood is at the top of the list of materials for bathhouse doors.

Material advantages

  1. Resistance to moisture.
  2. Adaptation to temperature changes.
  3. Wood itself is a heat insulator, so the owner of the site will not have to spend a lot of money on additional materials to insulate the canvas.
  4. And of course, aesthetic characteristics. Wood fits perfectly into the overall interior of the bathhouse. A wooden door will look harmonious and create a pleasant atmosphere in the room where you can steam.

Flaws

The material requires additional processing and not all types of wood are suitable for bathhouse door construction.

Important nuances

Also, due attention should be paid to the question of what material to make the door handle from. It makes the most sense to also use wood for this purpose, because metal, plastic and similar materials under the influence of high temperatures can become deformed and also heat up, which reduces the level of safety in the bathhouse;

Therefore, when the question comes about what material the entrance door to the bathhouse should be made of, it is worth paying attention to wood

It is best to give preference to aspen or linden wood. Internal doors leading to the steam room can be achieved by installing a glass door.

Glass

To enter the steam room, as well as the shower room located inside the steam room, glass doors are often installed.

Advantages

  1. This design looks harmonious in the opening.
  2. The glass door is easy to clean.
  3. The material tolerates high temperatures well, which are not uncommon in a steam room.
  4. There are many designs of glass doors, so everyone will choose the best option for themselves.

Flaws

  • the cost of such a design is quite high, because the glass must be durable and quite thick if the question is about a door;
  • You won’t be able to make such a door yourself, unless the owner of the site with the bathhouse has his own workshop for the production of glass products.

In any case, the glass in the doorway of a steam room or shower looks elegant and harmonious.

Plastic

If you prefer plastic, you need to choose a heat-resistant one; other options are not suitable for installation in a bathhouse.

The process of installing a plastic door to a bathhouse

Advantages

  1. Heat-resistant plastic is a fairly durable material.
  2. This door raw material is durable.
  3. Withstands changes in air temperature.
  4. Able to tolerate high levels of indoor humidity.

Flaws

The material is not natural, which means it will not release aromas into the air that one would like to hear in a steam room or dressing room.

Design options for plastic doors for baths

Metal

If you wish, you can create an armored metal door with your own hands, however, this will require additional materials and tools.

Advantages

  1. Such a canvas will certainly protect the dressing room from drafts.
  2. This design looks harmonious.
  3. A large selection of designs of such canvases will help satisfy the needs of even the most demanding apartment owners.

Flaws

  • high price;
  • such a canvas is not suitable for installation at the entrance to the steam room.

The choice of material depends solely on the preferences of the owner of the land plot. Any raw material will fit perfectly into the space of the bathhouse, the main thing is to do the work with soul.

A few words about aesthetics

Each of us wants to surround ourselves with beauty, make our personal space stylish, cozy, and non-standard. This is easy to do in a residential building or apartment. Baths, for the most part, are similar to each other in both arrangement and decoration.

Doors for steam rooms made of glass help to add zest to the interior of the bathhouse, let in more light, and expand the space. They look “lighter” and have a huge variety of designs.

Look how interesting these baths look:

Sliding doors for a steam room are an infrequent solution, as they retain heat less well

Glass doors and partitions are a real salvation for those who suffer from claustrophobia or are simply not in good health. Through them, even if the glass is colored or frosted, you can distinguish silhouettes and, if necessary, come to the rescue.

Material

By default, doors are made using 8mm tempered glass. It is similar to ordinary glass in appearance and has a similar manufacturing technology, with the exception of additional processing under high temperature conditions. The tempering procedure boils down to heating the glass to 500-600°C and sharply reducing the temperature, when the creation of compressive stresses inside the particles helps to increase its strength. What does heat treatment provide:

  • Increased resistance to mechanical stress.
  • High resistance to temperature fluctuations in the range -70°C-250°C.
  • Health safety. If the integrity of the canvas is damaged, the risk of injury is minimal, since it is quite difficult to cut yourself on large fragments with no sharp edges.

The service life of doors largely depends on the quality of the supporting structure, which, in turn, is influenced by the material of manufacture.

Boxes are made from different types of wood:

  • Spliced linden with low density, high strength, lightness and external softness. It smells very pleasant, does not contain resins, and has a beautiful light color.
  • Aspens are the best solution for operation in conditions of intense steam generation and high temperatures. It has a high density, low content of resinous substances, provides a disinfecting effect and does not lose its beneficial properties over the years. The strength characteristics of aspen are almost similar to oak.
  • Pines – pine boxes are found in products from Scandinavian manufacturers. It has a high resin content, which explains its immunity to wood diseases, is heat-resistant, strong and durable.

TOP 5 main types of wood for lumber

#2Cedar 4.95 / 5
#3Pine 4.9 / 5
#4Fir 4.85 / 5
#5Spruce 4.8 / 5

Larch

Larch is a special type of softwood often used for lumber. In strength, it is second only to yew and oak, and its ease of cultivation and processing ensures a low price compared to elite types of wood. It is slightly susceptible to environmental influences and is resistant to moisture and sun. This is a good material that is used for floorboards, floor beams and creating walls.

Larch Pros

  • high strength and moisture resistance;
  • durability;
  • low susceptibility to warping.

Minuses

  • high thermal conductivity;
  • There is a possibility of internal cracks appearing due to improper drying technology.

Cedar

Cedar is an expensive wood used for finishing buildings and creating load-bearing structural elements. In fact, products made from real cedar are almost impossible to find on the CIS market, because it grows only on a few islands in the Mediterranean. The alternative used is Korean pine, often named after this rare tree.

Cedar Pros

  • resistance to rot and wormhole;
  • high strength;
  • minimum defects (radial cracks or ring delaminations).

Minuses

  • has a specific woody aroma;
  • Cedar wood is very expensive.

Pine

Pine wood is considered universal in woodworking because of its qualities. It has a lower density than larch, but processing costs are lower. Pine contains a high proportion of resins, so its durability is high. This material is used for beams, boards, logs and beams, as well as facing material. It is pine that is most often used to produce lining.

Pine Pros

  • environmental friendliness;
  • strength;
  • long period of operation;
  • easy repair.

Minuses

  • pine wood is soft, easily scratched and damaged;
  • Resin stains may form on the walls.

Fir

Fir is rarely used for lumber, because it requires lengthy processing. This wood has high natural humidity and low moisture yield, which is why it needs to be dried long and hard using special ovens. Therefore, this material is used only for cladding.

Fir Pros

  • wood is practically odorless;
  • does not contain resin.

Minuses

quickly rots and is destroyed by wood-boring insects.

Advantages of glass doors in a steam room

By and large, these shortcomings cannot be taken too seriously, because most of them are easy to fix. But the advantages of these products should be discussed separately.

As for the material, it is better to choose stainless steel hinges, which do not rust or wear out too quickly.

The fittings also include door latches. In inexpensive models of glass doors, ball latches are often installed, however, they are short-lived, wear out quite quickly and can jam at any time. It is unlikely that anyone will object that it is not particularly pleasant to be locked inside a steam room when you urgently want to get out and cool off. But magnetic latches are the best option for a sauna. They are very durable and never jam.

  • glass sheet;
  • hardwood timber measuring 4x80 mm;
  • door hinges;
  • fittings (wooden or metal);
  • closer;
  • soft silicone seals;
  • platbands;
  • fastening elements (anchors);
  • polyurethane foam;
  • means for impregnation of wooden structural elements.

Door installation tools:

  • electric screwdriver;
  • hammer;
  • hacksaw;
  • building level;
  • construction pencil;
  • tape measure, square.

Installing a steam room door with your own hands

Therefore, if maintaining high humidity is not critical for you, feel free to install glass; it will not sweat. However, it must be said here that the atmosphere in a steam room with high convection is not compatible with the regime of a Russian bath. This microclimate is already closer to a Finnish sauna.

Another important disadvantage of glass structures is that they have a minimum height of 1.8 meters. When arranging a steam room for use in Russian bath mode, this can become a big problem. To get a good steam cake, there must be at least 40-50 cm from the top edge of the door to the ceiling, which leads to the need to design a steam room with ceilings of at least 2.3-2.4 meters.

In a Russian bathhouse, where high humidity is of particular importance, only glass doors should be installed in wooden frames with a threshold and a seal around the entire perimeter. Often when purchasing glass doors, they are taken without a threshold or without a seal, which leads to excessive ventilation of the steam room and disruption of the necessary microclimate.

Glass has a feature that can be a significant drawback in wooden baths. This feature lies in the impossibility of changing the dimensions of the canvas. If a wooden bathhouse changes the geometry of the internal walls during the shrinkage process, then you can always trim the wooden door a little and continue to use it.

Since there are some details you may or may not like:

  • This material is environmentally friendly and will not harm a person even in a wet environment;
  • Glass doors to the bathhouse perfectly tolerate high humidity and temperature and therefore will last for quite a long time, and under the action of the listed loads will not change their structure;
  • The disadvantage can be considered the possibility of damage to the canvas by mechanical means. But this issue is being resolved and it is possible to apply an armored film to the surface;
  • Glass doors to the bathhouse are sufficient (see Installation of glass doors in residential and public buildings) and this is completely possible to do with your own hands and without resorting to outside help;
  • This design visually enlarges the room and therefore for small rooms it is simply a godsend;
  • A glass door for a sauna will not require a lot of maintenance, unlike a wooden structure;
  • Glass bath doors are transparent and this confuses some. But this issue is easily resolved and the glass can be tinted, we will talk about this below;
  • The price of the material is not high and is significantly lower than some types of wood.

If you take them into account when purchasing, then you will not be disappointed at the end of the installation:

Glass doors for baths should be selected according to glass thickness, this indicator should not be less than 7 mm

  • The glass door for a bathhouse must fit well enough to the jamb, otherwise there will be a draft and if you installed such a door in a steam room, then heat will escape;
  • The fittings for glass doors to the sauna should not be heated, otherwise you may damage the skin.

Removing transparency

Glass doors for a bath confuse some with their transparency, then we will tell you how to quickly eliminate this drawback, and without reducing the quality of the material.

  • A bathhouse door with glass can be made matte and not transparent using a sandblaster. The price of the work is not so high, so anyone can afford it;
  • If you have a talent for drawing, then you have the opportunity to apply a drawing on the surface (see Doors for painting: we prepare and paint). There are many waterproof paints available in retail stores;
  • It is also possible to tint glass; there are many films available in the retail trade that are designed just for this;
  • It is possible to spray on the surface; there are a large number of companies that can easily and quickly carry out this work. It is possible to give a shade of gold and silver.

Standard sizes

Doors for baths in a store

The main inconvenience associated with non-standard dimensions is the price of the product. In addition, it must first be made to order. It’s much easier to come to the store and buy something ready-made.

In principle, there is no significant difference between the doors in a bathhouse, residential or public place. The standards for them are the same, and all the nuances relate only to high humidity and temperature changes, which are characteristic of baths, but this is a separate topic.

Previously, it was necessary to focus only on GOST, but now, if it is possible to order products from abroad, you need to take into account the sizes of bath doors according to Western standards

According to GOST

Let's start with the fact that inside the bathhouse you can install doors made of wood, glass and plastic. However, wood in this regard turns out to be decisive, because companies that work with plastic are ready to make any size of bathhouse door, and glass models do not differ in size from standard wooden ones.

Wooden

The regulatory document according to which doors for residential and public buildings are manufactured is GOST 6629-88.

Below are two plates that give the width and height of the door leaf without the frame in millimeters, and at the intersections of the rows and columns - the designation of the dimensions of the doorways in decimeters.

ATTENTION! The opening is quite significantly larger than the size of the canvas - 10 cm.

According to European standards

In general, the standard dimensions of a bathhouse door can be specified in three ways: the door leaf itself without a frame, with a frame, and the size of the light opening. However, there is nothing difficult in independently calculating the entire trinity, knowing one of the values and how much less or more the other values are, because the opening and the box are larger than the canvas by constant amounts.

Useful tips

The dimensions of glass doors for a Russian bath must be selected so that there is no distance between the panel and the floor. When installing glass door structures in a hammam or Finnish sauna, it is necessary to leave a gap at the bottom for ventilation, so such doors are made slightly smaller in height.

A few simple and useful recommendations for installing and maintaining glass door systems:

  • It is necessary to periodically inspect the hinges and monitor their condition, because due to the heavy weight, the fittings become loose and the fabric sags. If necessary, tighten the screws.
  • You should not install a glass door in a newly built room. You need to wait several months for the structure to completely shrink.
  • Do not use abrasive products to care for the canvas, as scratches may remain.
  • The door to the sauna or bathhouse should open exclusively outward. This ensures a quick safe exit from the steam room and saves usable space.
  • It is recommended to use doors made of frosted or tinted glass, as well as with a printed pattern or design. Transparent glass may be accidentally overlooked.

With the correct installation of a glass door system in a steam room, the necessary conditions are created for taking bath procedures. This design will last for many years if you follow a number of simple tips for hygienic care of glass sheets.

Installing a door in a bathhouse

Difficulties may arise when installing doors in a log house - made of logs or timber. The technology here is different.

First of all, doors and windows are not installed in a new log house. It must stand and shrink for at least a year. At this time, the crowns are periodically caulked, which constantly lowers and raises the logs, changing the geometry of the walls. How to install doors/windows here? They will not withstand such loads. You need to wait until the main shrinkage has passed.

To prevent the door frame from getting jammed or crushed during shrinkage, a casing is made

In an established log house, holes are made for windows and doors. Most often, they are cut out with a chainsaw. Marking is done only using a laser level or plumb line. Building-grade precision is not enough here.

In the resulting hole, logs can walk freely, which is unacceptable. In addition, a wooden house, even after many years, can rise a little - during caulking, and settle - after. All the same, you will periodically have to plug the gaps that form.

In such conditions, even the thickest door frame is unlikely to be able to withstand the load. That’s why they came up with the idea of making a frame or casing in the windows/doors. This is a doorway frame made of thick boards that compensates for changes in height and holds the free ends of the logs. They are made in several ways.

Method one

Such an installation is only possible on an established log house. The procedure is as follows:

  1. The logs are hemmed, leveling the surface around the perimeter so that platbands can later be installed.
  2. Nail two side posts, securing them into each crown with several long and thick nails. The length of the nail is at least three times the thickness of the board.
  3. The horizontal stand is nailed 6-8 centimeters below the height of the opening. This gap will serve to compensate for the shrinkage of the building. Later this hole is filled with insulation.
  4. The door frame is nailed to the finished frame, then the door leaf is hung.
  5. The last stage is the installation of platbands. First, they are nailed on one side, the cracks are foamed with polyurethane foam or lined with flax tow. The gap at the top is filled with insulation tightly folded in several layers. Then everything is closed with platbands on the other side.

Method two

This option for installing a door in a log house is more labor-intensive, but also more reliable. It also involves installation in a not fully established log house.

Casing box for door with groove and block

  1. At the end of the opening, a groove is selected in the logs. Its width is 50 mm, depth - 48-50 mm. This can be done with a chain saw or circular saw, but best of all, with a router. Everything is finished and leveled with a chisel and chisels (especially in the corners).
  2. A 50*50 mm block is hammered into the groove made. Its length with a settled log house is 2 cm less than the height of the opening, with a fresh one - 5 cm.
  3. The top bar is still fixed lower than the height of the doorway and also by 5 cm.
  4. The door frame is nailed to a block.

With this method of installing a door in a wooden bathhouse, it turns out that the entire load during shrinkage falls on the timber, and the door frame remains intact.

Method three: timber casing

This type of installation can also be used on an unsettled log house. There is more work to be done here: both the tongue and groove will need to be molded. It is more convenient to make a tenon with a circular saw and a little chisel and chisels. The groove depends on who you want, but the most convenient device for this is a router.

  1. A tenon 50 mm thick and slightly less than 40 mm deep is cut out on the vertical parts of the opening.
  2. In bars measuring 100*100 mm or 100*200 mm and a length slightly less than the height of the doorway (2 cm shorter for an established log house and 5 cm for a new one), a groove of 40*40 mm is cut in the middle of the width.
  3. At the bottom of the doorway we work on a threshold equal to the width of the casing beam - for its reliable fixation. It should be slightly recessed, about 5 mm.
  4. After installing the sidewalls, a transverse board is attached to the top. It turns out to be 5.5 cm (or 2.5 cm) below the doorway.
  5. With this method, you don’t have to install the bath door frame, but hang the doors. directly to the casing. When choosing this installation method, you need to cut out holes for the hinges in the sidewall, and then hang the door leaf.

Installation features

Since glass doors are supplied assembled and with a frame, their installation should not cause difficulties. The most important thing is not to drop the heavy canvas and install the box correctly using a level.

Advice. You need to decide on the size of the door in advance in order to create an accurate opening. Its perimeter dimensions should be 15-20 mm larger than the dimensions of the box.
