Do-it-yourself Maslova bathhouse: features and subtleties of design

Health has always worried scientists in all fields of science. Maslov's bathhouse combines many years of experience and know-how in scientific and engineering thought. The Maslova bathhouse appeared in the 80s and gained popularity among many lovers of the traditional Russian bathhouse. We will tell you how to build a Maslova bathhouse with your own hands and what features it has in today’s article.

You don’t need a large room for a Maslov bath.

What is the Maslova bathhouse?

This is an insulated cabin equipped with infrared heating elements. The cabin has humidity and temperature sensors. The frame of the bathhouse is welded from stainless steel, onto which a heat-insulating material is attached, on top of which a vapor-proof film is glued.

The inside of the cabin is upholstered in two layers of moisture-resistant plasterboard. An electrical cable is attached to the drywall and covered with galvanized mesh. All cabin walls are covered with plaster and finished with finishing putty.

In another version, Maslov’s bathhouse is a traditional wooden log house, which is heated by infrared radiation.

Foundation

Laying the foundation for the bathhouse is a fundamental step. The reliability and durability of the entire building depends on its quality. It can be carried out in different ways depending on the soil of the building site and the size of the structure. Since the sauna is not a large building, the wall materials chosen are mostly light and heavy stationary furniture is not expected to be placed inside, you can discard the installation of a solid reinforced concrete slab and opt for strip and columnar types of base.

Ideal for use on dry soil with deep groundwater.

Has the following advantages:

  • High degree of reliability and strength due to monolithic pouring of the entire perimeter of the future building.
  • Additional functionality. For example, the implementation of a cellar or underground for subsequent storage of bath accessories.
  • Increased thermal insulation properties of the floor structure. This reduces future fuel costs.

The instructions for laying such a foundation are not very complicated:

We mark the position of the walls on the prepared area using pegs and ropes.

Do-it-yourself marking of future walls

We dig a trench 50 cm deep and 10 cm wide than the thickness of the walls.

  • At the bottom we arrange a twenty-centimeter cushion of compacted gravel.
  • We install formwork from boards along the walls. Its height should be at least 20 cm above the soil freezing level.
  • We install reinforced rods inside to increase the strength of concrete.
  • Fill with a solution made of cement, sand and crushed stone in proportions 1:3:5.

Columnar

Pile foundation

This type of foundation makes it possible to save money and also increases the options for land under development.

Let's highlight these advantages:

  • Lower selling price. This is achieved due to the fact that there is no need to fill the entire perimeter, but rather only pour the columns in certain places.
  • Possibility of installation in lowlands, on slopes and even in swampy areas.

The installation process largely repeats the process of installing a strip base, only, as noted above, not the entire perimeter is poured, but only the holes dug under the joints of the walls.

You can also use an even more economical and faster method of creating a pile foundation:

  • After marking the holes, we dig them to the diameter of the asbestos pipes.
  • We insert the prepared pipes into the ground.
  • We pour concrete into them.

Properties of the Maslova bathhouse

  • The steam room of the bathhouse is equipped with a drain ladder and a mixer tap. In practice, the steam room performs two functions: a steam room and a washing room. This arrangement of the bath allows it to be installed even in a city apartment.
  • Interior wall decoration is usually done using ceramic or mosaic tiles.
  • The bath is heated using a steam generator that operates on infrared heating elements.
  • This heating system gives the effect of a thermos, so the set temperature in the steam room does not decrease and operates in constant mode.
  • Ventilation in the bathhouse operates in forced mode.

Indications and contraindications for the use of RBM

Banya Maslova can cure many diseases with the right approach. Indications for using such a bath are:

  • chronic heart disease;
  • hypertension in the initial stage;
  • bronchitis and pneumonia;
  • epilepsy, various neuroses and depression;
  • problems in the endocrine system;
  • allergies of various types;
  • stomach ulcer.

In addition, regular visits to the RBM are recommended for immunocompromised children and pregnant women. Bath procedures with uniform heating of the whole body help get rid of toxicosis, fetal hypoxia, and help reduce blood loss during childbirth.

Creating a microclimate in the bathhouse

To control the microclimate, temperature and humidity meters are used, which are located on the control panel.

  • Children's mode, in which the steam temperature should not be higher than +35C with the ventilation system running.
  • IR bath - in this mode, the temperature under the ceiling can reach +65C, below, near the floor - no higher than +40C. Ventilation should be moderate.
  • Aroma bath. Average temperature is +50C. Steam is used for healing herbs or essential oils. Ventilation operates at minimum mode.
  • Dry hammam. The temperature is not higher than +50C, the ceiling is not heated. Ventilation operates at minimum mode.
  • Wet hammam. The temperature is not higher than +50C. The steam generator produces steam with temperatures up to +300C. Air humidity reaches 90%. Ventilation is insignificant.
  • Soft Russian bath. The shelves in the steam room are heated to +42C. Under the ceiling +60C. The steam generator produces steam with temperatures up to +500C. Ventilation is minimal.
  • Hot Russian bath. The temperature under the ceiling is up to +80C, steam comes out of the steam generator with a temperature of up to +700C. Ventilation is minimal.

How did the idea come about?

Victor Maslov is not just a physicist, but also an inventor. The idea of creating an unusual bathhouse came to him completely by accident. Having bought an old house for his mother in the Moscow region, he decided to restore order there. I collected all the garbage and various rubbish and decided to burn it not on the site, but in the Russian stove that was in the house. The furnace overheated greatly, so it needed to be repaired.

Viktor Valentinovich had to climb inside the furnace to straighten the bricks and cover the cracks with clay. The stove didn't cool down completely, it was warm and cozy there. After finishing work, he noticed that his back stopped hurting. Therefore, he came up with the idea of laying a bed inside the stove and resting there for several hours. And at the same time to warm up, since after the repair I had to wash off the snow outside. As a result, he spent the whole night there, and the next morning he got the idea to build a bathhouse according to a new principle.

Advantages

  • fast heating, ease of operation and the presence of a large number of different operating modes of the bath;
  • high fire safety, since there is no source of fire (open fire in a sauna stove);
  • the heated steam is light, which creates comfortable conditions for staying in the steam room;
  • The compact dimensions of the bath allow you to combine a steam room with a washing room;
  • IR radiation can cure colds, joint pain and has a rejuvenating effect on the skin.

X-ray

In this section we will try to answer the question, Maslova bathhouse, what is it?

We will not list the generally accepted and, let’s say, traditional principles of the Russian bath; we will focus on those that are original, unique and inherent only in Maslov’s system. So, this design consists of:

  1. Sweat rooms. A rather peculiar name for an internal separate bath area in which a peculiar adaptation of the body takes place before the main steam and phytomassage procedures. There is a ceramic sofa with an “anatomical profile” back. It is difficult to judge how “anatomical” the profile is, since different people have quite different heights and body constitutions to guarantee the creation of a truly universal design, with certain averaged parameters. The sofa is heated by hidden heating elements. Adjacent to it is a ceramic shelf with three heating zones: for the head, torso, and lower extremities. It should be noted that the temperature of each zone has independent adjustment and can be set individually. The vaulted ceiling is reminiscent of the family features of an oriental bath - hammam, and has lighting with variable intensity and color of the glow.
  2. Steam room with heat generator. We would like to especially emphasize that it is with a heat generator, and not a steam generator, which we talked about not so long ago. The steam room has a heated shelf with a lattice design to supply fresh air to the head of the steamer. There are also ceiling-type steam nozzles that direct a stream of steam to the shelves and a shower system with hot and cold water.

These two work areas are finished exclusively with ceramics and have built-in heating elements to maintain the overall temperature background. Smooth surfaces are heated by hidden pipelines with forcedly circulating coolant, vaulted surfaces are heated by a flexible electric heating cable. A few words about temperature regimes so that you can track trends in thermodynamic processes:

  • At the floor level, or rather the bottom of the walls, the temperature is 45 degrees;
  • At the level of the middle of the wall - 55 degrees Celsius;
  • The upper third of the wall is 60 degrees;
  • The surface temperature of the sofa and shelves is about 42 degrees Celsius;
  • The temperature of the ceiling surface is about 75 - 80 degrees.

The total height of the steam room, taking into account the radius of the arch, is no more than 2200 mm.

By the way! This circumstance, as well as the fact that the ceramic surface of the ceiling heats up quite strongly, allows you to heat a broom on the ceiling vault. This unusual technique is not typical for a traditional Russian bath.

The doors to the sweat and steam rooms are glass, which creates the illusion of an oriental bathhouse rather than a Russian one.

Flaws

Opponents of Maslov’s bathhouse claim that infrared radiation has completely destroyed the spirit of the Russian bathhouse, which is distinguished by the aroma of heated wood and the presence of “Living” fire.

The cost of arranging a Maslova bathhouse is very high, and operating costs are significantly higher than in a wood-burning bathhouse. Installation and adjustment of equipment for Maslov’s Russian bath can only be carried out by specialists.

Walls

Current technologies can offer several options for suitable materials for bath walls.

Tree

Wooden sauna
Wood has the following advantages:

  • Low thermal conductivity. Just right for the steam room.
  • Ecological cleanliness. Since the bathhouse is, first of all, a health resort, this is a very important point.
  • Durability and reliability.
  • Aesthetic appearance.
  • Nice smell.

Timber sauna

The disadvantages include the fear of high humidity in cheap breeds. But all this can be eliminated by applying antiseptics.

Foam concrete

Bathhouse made of foam blocks
Distinctive features of this material:

  • Low price. This is a fairly budget-friendly construction option.
  • Ease. It provides low pressure on the foundation and the ability for one person to lay large-sized products, which greatly simplifies installation work.
  • Low thermal conductivity.
  • Water resistance and fire safety.

Of the minuses:

Not a very beautiful appearance, which requires external decorative finishing.

If your budget is significantly limited, then this material will help you out.

Brick

Brick building

The properties of brick have also been known for some time now. With it you will get a reliable, durable building, designed to be combined with a utility unit.

But such a bathhouse will not be cheap, and will not have its natural pristine quality, as is the case with timber. Wood is still the best material for building your own steam room.

Check valve

There must be a check valve at the end of the suction hose (link to aliexpress), otherwise the pumping station will take a long time to pump water, or you will even need to add water to the filler hole, as before the first start, the fact is that the pumping station cannot lift water from barrels, if there is air in its pump.

A check valve looks like this, they are available for different diameters, there are also plastic ones (cheap), but they should not be used, they quickly fail.

When starting the pumping station for the first time, you need to fill it with water (1).

We did not have the opportunity to make a pipeline from the well, as it would freeze, so we installed a 200 liter plastic barrel, which we filled as needed.
