After the master’s work is completed, the tattoo begins to heal and the further success of the procedure depends only on compliance with the rules of care.
How to care for a tattoo
How to care for a tattoo - detailed information will be provided to you by qualified tattoo artists in our salon. At the end of the session, you will be applied a special barrier protection in the form of a film. After applying a tattoo, it is necessary to block the flow of oxygen, which prevents the discharge from drying out and turning it into a dried crust. After 1.5-2 hours, you need to remove the film and thoroughly wash the tattoo with soap and water. Tattoo care includes a set of important measures - information about them will be provided by the tattoo studio "Tattoo-77".
When can you go to the pool after a tattoo?
Where there is a bathhouse, there is usually a swimming pool. Fitness centers, water parks, tourist centers, spa centers, hotels - they all try to offer guests as many water activities as possible.
Sometimes it is simply impossible to resist the urge to swim. And if this is also an “endless” outdoor pool with a view of the mountains, then you simply cannot resist taking some good shots with a favorable angle of your new tattoo, just after the salon.
Let these shots be on the shore of the pool, and not in the water: with a fresh tattoo, chlorinated water is contraindicated for you at first. You've probably seen how white stains appear on clothes almost before your eyes from bleach. Of course, the concentration in the water of pools and water parks is minimal, but it can be enough to lighten a fresh tattoo. And if you swim in the open air in sunny weather, then the pigments are also affected by ultraviolet light, which is repeatedly reflected from the surface of the water. The result will be unpredictable, but certainly sad.
In addition to the risk of changing the color and contour of the tattoo work, there is also the risk of infection. A swimming pool is essentially a huge bathtub in which hundreds of people bathe. And few of them took a shower before the swim, as required by the rules. Our skin successfully copes with the task of protecting the body from infections, but provided that its covers are not damaged. And the process of applying a tattoo involves microtrauma of the skin. Therefore, in the first days and weeks after the procedure, its protective function is reduced. It is not for nothing that the skin is protected with bandages, film or membranes. You should not subject it to additional stress - it is better to wait for complete healing and swim where you want with peace of mind.
First days after the procedure: tattoo care
After getting a tattoo, you should perform a number of procedures:
- Wash with soapy water in the morning and evening if ichor appears. It is necessary to use cool water, as hot water causes vasodilation, which can lead to increased secretion of ichor. It is better to use baby soap with a minimum amount of alkali and additives.
- After washing with soap and water, use a lint-free towel to blot your tattoo. The ideal choice is paper towels. After removing moisture from the tattoo, treat the area with CHLORHEXIDINE.
- Next, apply a healing agent - it is better to use D-panthenol cream. It is applied morning and evening for 2-3 days.
Bath and tattoo
The question of how long after a tattoo can you go to the bathhouse interests many who plan to go to a tattoo parlor.
There is a category of people for whom visiting the bathhouse is a mandatory process. Few circumstances can prevent you from enjoying a steam room with a fluffy broom. In addition, many diseases are alleviated after a bath. In the old days, she was almost the main doctor. There are circumstances in which bathing procedures are categorically not indicated. For example, a bath after a tattoo. Not only is there a certain area of the skin with a fresh wound, but in the hot air of the bath, and with water, some of the paint will simply be washed off. In addition, at elevated temperatures, pores open even on healthy skin.
The tattooing process itself is quite painful. The pain does not go away immediately. Interaction with hot air, detergents, a washcloth and a broom can bring additional suffering. The individual characteristics of the body and the level of resistance cannot be discounted.
At least two weeks should pass before the next . It is better to refrain from steaming for a month. The signal that the body is ready to continue its normal lifestyle will be the complete healing of the padding area. That is, they must:
- swelling to fall;
- redness disappears;
- pain when pressed will disappear.
Recommendations for showering
Self-care necessarily involves washing in the shower. To carry out this hygienic procedure and avoid the disappearance of some of the color due to water penetrating the wound, you must adhere to the following rules.
- Take a shower only with the bathroom door open to avoid excess steam buildup inside the room.
- Maintain normal water temperature, avoid very hot water. Otherwise, the pores will open, which will increase swelling and contribute to the disappearance of pigment from the brow area.
- Swim for a maximum of 5-10 minutes.
- Wet only the body, do not touch the face, hair, head, neck.

Why is it necessary to take care of your tattoo? The process of applying a tattoo involves driving paint under the skin, which is immediately injured, and the fresh design at first looks like one continuous wound. Therefore, before complete healing, it is necessary to undergo a period of rehabilitation, otherwise there may be serious complications. Having decided to put an image on the body, it is important for every person to know how to care for a tattoo.
And in order for the drawing to remain clear and bright, its care must be competent and correct. If you approach the recovery process responsibly, it will take place without harm to your health, and the tattoo will delight you with its beauty for many years.
There cannot be an exact answer to the question of how long a tattoo takes to heal, since it depends on the structure of the skin and the body’s immunity.
Some people only need a few days to recover, while others need much more time.
In addition, the location of the tattoo matters: for example, on the ankle the healing process takes longer than on the arm, but it is necessary to take care of a fresh tattoo regardless of its application.
About a couple of days after the session, a crust appears on the drawing as a result of the formation of ichor. Many people make a mistake and rip it off, which is absolutely not allowed.
Yes, the injured area on the skin itches and peels, which is why tattoo care is so important. And if the healing process goes correctly, the crust will soon disappear on its own.
On average, recovery takes from 7 to 10 days. Depending on the structure of the skin, tattoo correction is often required after healing, and you need to be prepared for the fact that the recovery time will increase.
And to make the tattoo itchy less, it should be lubricated with healing agents that will reduce discomfort.
The skin will gradually stop itching, the redness around the design will disappear, and the healing stages of the tattoo will pass with minimal discomfort.
General recommendations:
- After applying a tattoo, you must avoid visiting the bathhouse, sauna and solarium (tanning under the sun) for 3 weeks;
- It is also necessary to exclude sports and strong physical activity for 5 days;
- During healing, itching may occur in the tattoo area (this is normal). DO NOT SCRATCH! MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF TATTOO AND INFECTION!
- Also, during healing, the tattoo may become covered with a film, like a burn, after a heavy tan (this is normal) YOU CANNOT RIP OFF! MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF TATTOO AND INFECTION!
- REMEMBER!!! Ultraviolet rays are the first enemy for tattoos! If you want your tattoo to retain its aesthetic appearance for as long as possible, then do not forget to protect it with specialized creams.
Modern healing method recommended by tattoo artists:
- After applying the tattoo, the artist will cover the work with specialized film “Suprasorb F”
- You need to walk with the film for 5 days;
- The area under the film should not sweat (exclude physical activity and hot baths, only shower);
- Do not violate the integrity of the film (do not pierce it, do not wrap it with anything)!
- The first day there may be an accumulation of ichor (lymph) and paint - this is normal.
- 5 days after fixation, the film must be removed (you can do this yourself or contact a specialist)
- Pry up the edge of the film, hook it and pull it to the side as much as possible, keeping the film constantly stretched, continue removing;
- After removing the film, wash the tattoo with liquid soap without using washcloths or other aggressive influences.
- After removing the film, for 2 weeks, do not forget to smear the tattoo with a specialized ointment with regenerating properties (“Doctor Pro”)
Traditional healing method:
- Immediately after applying the tattoo, the artist covers the image with a disposable diaper or stretch film to avoid contact with the external environment. For some time, the skin around the design may be slightly sore and remain red; at first, ichor will stand out. THIS IS NORMAL! The main thing is to prevent dirt and infection from getting in.
- 2-4 hours after application, the bandage is removed, and the tattoo is thoroughly washed with warm water (with gentle movements) and soap (preferably without a high content of fragrances and alkalis) until it “squeaks.” Under no circumstances should dried clots of ichor be scrubbed off with a washcloth or penza.
- Then, gently blot the image with a paper towel or napkin until it dries completely.
- After this, apply a healing ointment based on dexpanthenol, preferably a professional tattoo care product (“Doctor Pro”). Let the tattoo breathe for 5-7 minutes.
- Then cover the image again with a protective diaper, securing the edges with rolled honey. Band-aid or paper tape.
This procedure (rinsing, applying ointment, wrapping) must be repeated every 4-5 hours for 4-5 days. After 4-5 days, the healing ointment must be applied for ~ 7–10 days. It is unacceptable to use alcohol-containing products during the tattoo healing process! ATTENTION!!! With modern and traditional healing methods:
- Complete restoration of the skin at the tattoo site ~ 1 month;
- During this period, do not forget to carefully care for your tattoo. Listen carefully to all the master’s recommendations regarding healing! Please know that if the tattoo is not properly cared for, the artist is not responsible for its appearance!
- If you follow all the above instructions, the tattoo will heal in the shortest possible time while maintaining its appearance without any complications.
What to do if you need to train?
If you have no patience at all, then on the third day after the tattoo artist’s work, you can do light exercises on your body. These can be stretching movements, strengthening muscle tone or relaxing them. Do not allow any force load. Use a jump rope, gymnastic exercises are suitable, jog on a machine or walk along a path
Perform all elements without load, with extreme caution. Choose exercises that will help you avoid friction with your new tattoo.
As you can see, there is a way out, but still subject to the main rule - physical activity after a tattoo is prohibited in the first two days. Next - only light training with minimal activity.
A little history
Tattoos appeared in Russia much later than in Europe. At the beginning of the twentieth century, Russian sailors became acquainted with the art of tattooing, adopting the fashion from foreign sailors.
Tattoos entered the everyday life of Russian people en masse with the advent of crime. Tattoos have become part of recognition in prisons and places of detention.
During the Soviet era, tattoos were common in the army, navy, and criminal structures. Often expressed a person’s attitude to politics, the meaning of life, and to people of the opposite sex.
Some religious denominations prohibit tattoos. Islam, Judaism and even Christianity are against drawings and patterns on the body; Muslims consider tattoos to be a sin.
And I’ll tell you about Japanese tattoos from the Yakuza a little later.
Contraindications for tattoo removal.
Despite the apparent simplicity of the method, there are many contraindications for tattoo removal:
- Fresh tan (at least 4 weeks must pass after natural tanning or visiting a solarium);
- Photosensitivity (hypersensitivity to sunlight, sun allergy);
- Taking drugs classified as photosensitizers. These are hormonal contraceptives, tetracycline antibiotics, sulfonamides. Their use must be stopped 2-4 weeks before the planned procedure.
- Taking vitamin A and isotretinoin for the previous six months;
- Skin diseases (atopic dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, lichen ruber, porphyria and others);
- Purulent-inflammatory rashes in the affected area
- Acute infectious diseases (including exacerbation of herpes viral infection);
- Chronic diseases, including diabetes mellitus in the stage of decompensation.
- Mental illnesses;
- Epilepsy;
- Varicose veins and signs of thrombophlebitis in the laser impact area;
- Oncology
- The presence of metal prostheses, implants, “pacemaker” (artificial heart rate driver);
- Tendency to form keloid scars;
- Disturbances in the blood coagulation system
In conclusion, I would like to wish you to consciously approach the issue of tattoos and clearly understand whether you need it or not. Clearly weigh the pros and cons. After all, removing a tattoo is much more time consuming and financially expensive than getting one.
Which tattoos are more permanent?
Any tattoos fade over time, most of all this applies to color drawings, with shadows and realism. Graphic tattoos and old-school style tattoos fade less.
Tattoos in the old school style have thicker contours, they are not characterized by three-dimensional images and regular shapes. Most often these are marine-themed tattoos: sea, mermaid, ship, seagull, compass, anchor, dolphins and so on...
Tattoos have firmly taken root in the modern world; they have become part of a person’s personality.

Factors influencing the effectiveness of tattoo removal:
- The ink used to make the tattoo or make-up is very difficult to remove; the so-called “burnt” and pigments that are made on the basis of metal oxides. Most modern tattoo inks are easily removed. Tattoo ink and tattoos made with regular ink are best removed.
- Drawings that were applied to the skin decades ago are easier to remove than modern ones applied in recent years.
- The depth to which the paint was driven in. The laser beam affects only the upper part of the pigment. Only after removing the top, rather thin layer of paint, can the beam affect the “next layer”. The deeper and more paint was driven in, the more procedures will be needed to remove it.
- The color of the ink has a huge impact on the effectiveness of tattoo removal. The darker the paint, the easier it is to remove. Therefore, black tattoos are most preferable for laser removal. The lighter the paint, the more difficult it is to remove. Paint that is close in color to flesh-colored, beige, green and yellow is almost impossible to remove with a laser.
- Patient's skin color. If the skin is dark, then part of the beam energy is absorbed by the dark pigment of the skin, which makes the procedure less effective.
- The easiest way to remove tattoos is in the chest area, on the arms and legs, and buttocks, and on white skin they disappear the fastest.
- On the fingers, as well as in other places where the amount of fatty tissue is minimal, laser tattoo removal takes longer. Scarring in the tattoo area (a consequence of getting a tattoo or previous laser removal) slows down the removal of pigment, and sometimes makes it almost impossible
- Modern complex designs require lengthy removal. The reason for this is the intricacy of the design and the durability of the ink.
After complete removal of the black pigment, brown pigmentation remains, which resolves over a long period of time (about 12 months), in persons with a tendency to hyperpigmentation it takes longer.
Stages of tattooing
It all depends on the area that the drawing will occupy, but usually the filling process requires at least 1 hour.
- 1
Before starting the process, the master disinfects the skin. - 2
To reduce pain (and there will be pain, no matter what they write on the forums), the skin can be treated with an anesthetic. - 3
After tattooing, a disinfectant gel and a soothing compress are applied to the skin, and then the treated area is covered with a film so as not to injure it.
Ablative removal.
During laser resurfacing with an Er:YAG laser (erbium), an area of skin along with the pigment is physically removed (evaporated). This way you can remove tattoos of any color and origin.
Laser resurfacing gives excellent results when the dye is located in the surface layers of the epidermis, which is possible with the high professionalism of the tattoo artist.
However, in most cases, dye granules, especially amateur tattoos, old professional and some traumatic tattoos, often end up deep in the dermal zone. Accordingly, any attempt to remove such a tattoo using the ablative method will most likely lead to the formation of a postoperative scar.
Permanent makeup and the subtleties of its removal.
We have been familiar with the problem of tattoo removal for a long time. But the removal of permanent makeup has relatively recently entered our lives on such a large scale. This is due to the development of the beauty industry and the desire of the fair half of humanity to simplify their lives by excluding such a thing as classic makeup from their morning exercise. But the permanent does not always bring the long-awaited result, and the reflection in the mirror is not at all pleasing in the morning. This is where the question arises - how to get rid of this quickly? The answer is simple - using the same laser systems.
The nuances of permanent makeup removal:
- Often warm shades of permanent hair become darker after laser exposure.
- Laser tattoo removal in one session is possible only in the eyelid area, since the depth of the pigment in this area is the uppermost layers of the epidermis, and the amount of dye is insignificant.
- Removing eyebrow tattoos with a laser is a longer and more labor-intensive process, as is a similar procedure on the lips. This is explained by the depth of the pigment and the use of warm tones, as well as repeated corrections in order to obtain a more saturated color.
- After removing permanent makeup, you can use it again after a few months.
- If unnecessary areas are camouflaged with flesh tones, it will no longer be possible to use a laser in the future. All skin tones (especially white) contain titanium oxide. The laser beam simply does not see it!
- Laser eyebrow tattoo removal is a painful procedure that inevitably leads to discoloration of the hairs. But eyebrow growth is stimulated - a nice bonus when removing eyebrow tattoos. Eyebrow color is restored along with the growth of new hairs.
- The swelling in the eyelids goes away on about the third day.
- The use of decorative cosmetics is permitted when the skin is completely healed.
Important point!
It is impossible to determine the exact number of tattoo removal sessions!
When a laser beam is applied to a tattoo, it instantly brightens (especially during the first sessions), due to the destruction of the upper pigmented layer, and then the color returns and can become even brighter, due to the rise of the underlying pigment, and only after about 2 months from the procedure can you see the final Effect. Why? - you ask. Read the answer below.
“washing out” of the pigment destroyed into small particles occurs within one and a half to two months. And if you think that the more often you walk, the faster you will get rid of it, then this is not so. If you repeat the procedure earlier, the “non-blurred” pigment residues prevent the removal of the deeper pigment and the effectiveness of the procedure is insignificant. The maximum effect after the removal procedure appears gradually, over a period of one and a half to two months!
First time effect. The greatest effect of the procedure is visible after the first removal. Since the brightest, pigment-rich layer is destroyed. Subsequent times will not bring you such an enthusiastic result.
1) Don't drink alcohol before getting a tattoo
You should not drink alcohol before getting a tattoo. Despite the fact that no reputable or responsible tattoo artist would tattoo a person who was under the influence of alcohol, it's not a good idea for another reason. Alcohol thins the blood and getting a tattoo will cause more bleeding on the skin. This in turn will push the ink outwards and the result will be a very faded and uneven tattoo. And also, being under the influence of alcohol, you can dull your sense of the right choice and get an unsuccessful tattoo that you don’t like in the end.
