Drying time

The average drying time for Aquatex impregnations at a temperature of 18-22 degrees is from 8 to 12 hours. After this, you can begin applying the next layer.

Complete drying of the coating occurs no earlier than after 24 hours; some impregnations require at least 2 days for final drying.

Oils are not recommended for use at temperatures below +5 degrees and humidity exceeding 80%. The permissible moisture content of wood during painting should be within 15-20%.

Consumption

Oil consumption is affected by a number of factors, in particular:

condition and type of wood;
type of lumber;
impregnation application technology;
layer thickness.

In this regard, the manufacturer has established a fairly wide range of consumption values.

When applied in one layer, the consumption is:

for planed wood 25-60 ml per 1m2;
for sawn wood - 60-200 ml per 1 m2.

Life time

The Aquatex catalog contains 4 types of oil. As stated above, all impregnations are universal and can be used to treat internal and external surfaces.

Impregnation can be applied both to untreated wood and to a surface previously impregnated with drying oil.

Before applying the balm, it is recommended to pre-prime the surface. This operation allows you to increase the service life of the coating up to 10 years.

Oil glaze

Impregnation has high aesthetic characteristics. Creates a semi-gloss varnish coating on the surface that does not hide the natural lines of the wood grain.

Oil for garden furniture

Impregnation is suitable for processing any wood, including heat-treated wood, as well as exotic and hardwoods. Forms a durable, wear-resistant coating that prevents surface damage.

In addition to its main purpose, the oil can be used for painting wooden floors, stairs, terraces, steps and other surfaces subject to heavy mechanical stress.

How to use

The instructions for using this product are quite simple. In order for the finish to be of high quality, the wooden surface should be cleaned of dust and dirt. You also need to remove the old layer of finishing and clean off areas damaged by rot or fungus.

Aquatex Extra itself should be mixed thoroughly. The quality of the finish directly depends on how carefully this operation is performed. This product is usually applied in two layers. Don't make them too thick. After applying the first one, you should wait at least 12 hours. But it is better to leave the wooden product or structure to dry for a day. To increase the adhesive properties of the treated surface, it can be sanded with fine sandpaper. The second layer must dry for at least 24 hours (at a temperature of 20 degrees).

Processing technology

Surface preparation

Treat darkened areas of wood with WoodMaster bleach.
Clean the surface of old paint, remove dirt, thoroughly sand and sand.
Treat the facade and other external surfaces of the log house with Aquatex antiseptic primer.

Application of impregnation

Before painting, the oil must be mixed well.
Impregnation can be applied with a roller, sponge, brush or spray. The best tool is a brush with natural bristles.

The oil should be applied in a thin layer in the direction along the grain. No later than 40 minutes, unabsorbed impregnation residues are removed with a rag.

Indoors, it is recommended to treat with 1-2 layers of oil. External surfaces must be impregnated at least 2-3 times to increase service life.

Where can I use it?

All products of this brand can be used to protect wood both indoors and outdoors. Most often they finish everything with:

windows, frames and doors;
balconies, loggias, terraces, gazebos, porches, verandas;
walls, floors, ceilings;
facades of wooden structures;
furniture;
products made from chipboard, fiberboard, etc.

This product can be used to process both sawn and planed wood. It is also possible to use Aquatex for painting products with high humidity - up to 40%. This allows you to use the product not only in summer, but also, for example, in autumn.

Errors when applying Aquatex oil

As a rule, when treating a bathhouse or a house made of timber and logs with oil compounds, inexperienced craftsmen make the same mistakes, which significantly worsen the decorative and quality indicators of the future coating.

Poor-quality grinding, after which knots, dents and other defects remain on the surface.
Using impregnations from different batches on the same surface, which leads to uneven color.
Untimely removal of oil residues, which, when hardened, lead to uneven coating.
Applying too thick a layer of oil. This not only increases the drying period, but also worsens the appearance of the coating.
Ignoring interlayer grinding, resulting in an uneven and heterogeneous surface.

Useful tips

Before painting the surface, the manufacturer advises treating it with an antiseptic. Small wooden products can be painted with Aquatex Extra by dipping. However, in this case, the product will most likely have to be diluted a little with white spirit. If necessary, the texture coating of this brand can be applied not in two, but in three layers. It is not recommended to apply more. Otherwise, the wood grain may be hidden. “Aquatex Extra” is a product that can not only protect wood from fungi and bacteria, but also stop the destruction of fibers that has already begun. However, it is still worth cleaning the heavily affected areas before using it.

After completing all work, brushes and rollers can be cleaned with kerosene or solvents 646 or 647. White spirit can also be used for this purpose.

Do not mix Aquatex Extra, as well as antiseptics and impregnations of this brand with products from other manufacturers.
