A cozy and comfortable corner in the house - do-it-yourself bath furniture

If you own your own bathhouse or sauna, this is happiness. But no less important is what kind of furniture your oasis of healthy life will be furnished with. Of course, wooden furniture is preferable. However, prices for ready-made furniture for steam rooms and recreation areas are steep. But don't despair. Benches, benches, tables and even shelves can be made with your own hands. You just need to use the drawings and assembly diagrams presented in this article. And to consolidate the result, you need to watch the training video.

DIY sofa and chair for the bathhouse

How to make a sofa with your own hands? It is unlikely that anyone asks such a question today, when in any furniture store the choice of this piece of furniture is huge. You can choose whatever your heart desires.

However, if we are not talking about a luxurious piece of furniture for the living room, but simply about a comfortable place to relax in your own bathhouse, then the question will no longer seem so strange. After all, an ordinary sofa with a soft spring mattress covered with thick fabric is not suitable for a bath.

Tools and accessories

After drawing up diagrams for assembling pieces of furniture, you should prepare working tools. You will need for production:

  • Grinder machine;
  • Screwdriver;
  • Jointer;
  • Plane;
  • Jigsaw;
  • Screwdrivers, rulers, square, pencil.

Before assembly, use a grinder to remove any uneven surfaces from the surface of all boards and bars and round the corners.

The wood must first be treated with a protective antiseptic composition. The use of varnishes is unacceptable.

Bath furniture

A bathhouse on a personal plot is not a bathroom in a house, which is intended only for taking water procedures. Men consider the bathhouse, in addition to its immediate purpose, a place for friendly communication and a pleasant pastime. Therefore, the relaxation room must have furniture on which, after a good steam, you can sit, comfortably recline and relax.

A sofa can be a place to comfortably accommodate several people. Also in the recreation room there should be a table on which a samovar and tea utensils could be placed. After all, in between visits to the steam room, it is very useful to drink tea brewed with medicinal herbs.

If the smallest group gathers in the bathhouse, then the sofa will not be enough to seat everyone. Therefore, you can place several chairs in the relaxation room of the bathhouse. It’s not at all difficult to make at least one chair with your own hands.

Of course, it all depends on the size of the rest room. For a small bathhouse and, accordingly, a room for relaxation, a small table and a sofa are enough.

The bathhouse must have a separate room, such as a locker room, where water vapor from the steam room does not penetrate. The pieces of furniture here should be a hanger and a stool on which you can sit to take off, for example, shoes.

A mandatory attribute of a steam bath room are shelves. In a certain way, they can also be classified as bath furniture. Moreover, making them yourself is easier than all other accessories.

Types and sizes

It all depends on the installation location and purpose of the furniture. However, there are some standard options:

  1. Bench for lying down. Its width is 90 cm and its height is 50 cm. The length of the product is 90 cm for 1 person. If the bench is designed for several vacationers, then each of them requires another 60 cm of additional space.
  2. For sitting. Width – 40 cm, height – 50-90 cm. Since this type of bench has a back, its height is 110 cm.
  3. For saunas. The height of the device is 50-90 cm, width is 60 cm. The backrest here is the same as in the previous version.

Size and shape of bath benches

The steam bath bench is about 180 cm long. This furniture can be mobile or stationary. Types of products by design are presented in the table.

How to make a sofa for a bath?

To make a sofa with your own hands, you need to select suitable materials. The easiest way is to make a frame structure from beams and boards. First you need to decide on the dimensions according to which the material will be selected. The length of the sofa is determined in accordance with the size of the room. But the width (or depth) of the seat is enough to be 50-60 cm. In this case, you need to take into account the tilt of the back, which will take 10-15 cm away from the seat. Having decided on the dimensions, materials are selected. You will need:

To make a sofa soft and comfortable with your own hands, you need to buy 2 sheets of foam rubber 8-12 cm thick, fabric for covers and zippers according to its size. They are needed to make the covers easy to remove and put on if you need to dry the foam rubber or the covers themselves.

If there is a chest preserved in grandma’s old house, then making a sofa out of it with your own hands will be quite simple. It is enough to attach the backrest and soft linings to the seat and backrest - the sofa is ready for the bathhouse with your own hands.

Upholstery

Upholstery fabric
Proceed with upholstery in the following order:

  • cut two pieces of foam rubber corresponding in size to the sofa backrest and at least 15 cm thick;
  • cover the cut out elements with material, for example, tapestry, connecting them with a zipper;
  • Using decorative tape, attach the mattresses to the supporting structure. You will get the tape from upholstery material and Velcro. Secure one end of the tape to the frame with small nails, and the other to the tapestry cover;
  • Having sewn three covers from the same upholstery material and equipped them with zippers, fill them with the rest of the foam rubber. You should get three pillows.

Chair in the rest room or locker room

You can make your own bath chair using exactly the same principle as making a sofa. It's even a little easier because you don't need to make a box. A frame is simply made from beams onto which the seat and backrest are attached. In this case, the back does not have to be tilted - it can be straight.

If you use your imagination, you can make a chair with your own hands from a thick and fairly tall stump.

In order to make such a chair yourself, you just need to saw off part of the stump horizontally. Then, using a wide chisel, level the unsawed part, turning it into a backrest. Finally, the surface of the seat and back is treated. It’s very easy to make such a chair with your own hands, and it will look very unusual.

From a fairly thick branch, sawing it in half and installing several thinner pieces of the branch, you can easily make a hanger for a changing room. You just need to process them accordingly.

When the bathhouse is furnished with furniture made by yourself, it will be pleasant not only to take a steam bath, but also to relax with friends.

Manufacturing technology for a bench without a back

The simplest bench without a back consists of a seat and legs and is made as follows:

  1. Develop a drawing of a bench for a bathhouse, in which you indicate the dimensions of the component elements.
  2. Make legs from 50x50 mm bars.
  3. On the inside of the legs, make grooves for the cross beam.
  4. Install cross bars into the grooves and secure with self-tapping screws. Sink the fasteners into the wood.
  5. Connect the legs with long beams, which are attached to the top of the legs using self-tapping screws. Boards will lie on the beams.
  6. Lay the boards on horizontal beams and secure with dowels or screws. Provide gaps between the boards so that water does not accumulate at the joints and flows freely.
  7. Make places for the dowels in increments of 30-40 cm, then hammer the boards into place.
  8. If metal fasteners are used for fastening, recess the head into the board. Mask the hole on top with a mixture of PVA and sawdust.
  9. Sand and sand the bench. This requires special attachments. Use coarse grits first, then fine grits. Work carefully, removing small layers of wood.
  10. Remove splinters and sharp corners from the structure using sanding discs.
  11. Treat the bench with a protective compound intended for baths, for example, special oil. Apply 1-2 layers of oil.
  12. Leave the bench to dry for the period specified in the instructions for the product.
  13. Do not use drying oil or varnishes; they emit unpleasant fumes when heated.
